You can buy a Furminator and use it yourself and it will help lessen the shedding.

Try taking the dog to a groomer for a really good combing so you start with a clean slate so to speak. Then dampen the coat a little and comb out every day or two. Ask the groomer for suggestions on the type of brush or comb to use for your breed of dog. Dog coats are so different from breed to breed and one brush or comb does not work on all.

what kind of dog is it? when brushing, most owners make the mistake of only brushing the top coat, when it is the bottom coat that sheds. part the hair and brush from the root. taking the dog to a groomer will also help. they blow the undwercoat out with a force dryer, which gets more out than just brushing

also, what are you feeding the dog? when on a good quality food, the shedding is not as bad as it is when they eat something like pedigree

You can't stop a dog from shedding...all you can do is minimize the hair in your house by brushing her often. I doubt that the teaspoon of oil in her food is helping the shedding. Give her a good bath and then brush, brush, brush. What kind of dog is it?

Although shedding is very natural, you must be careful not to misinterpret shedding with hair loss.

I doubt that putting oil in her food is helping anything; I would recommend giving her immune boosters and vitamins for her coat and well being. Brushing her is good, but remember to brush the bottom coat also because that is what is going to shed.

Anytime you have a dog in the house, you will normally have to vacuum your furniture and carpets more than normal.

I use a slicker brush when brushing my dog during shedding season because he has a very thick 2nd coat, also try brushing in the opisite direction of the fur growth (ie instead of from the head to the tail, go from the tail to the head).

We have a very hairy shepherd/malamute mix. She's huge and hairy. We brushed and brushed, but then found the SECRET!! I took her to the groomers (first time ever because she's kind of aggressive) and they did this thing called the Furminator (hee hee). Anyway, it gets all the undercoat off and voila! She sheds so much less now. Its not eliminated, but its so much better.
