"We" are not a faith. Pagans represent a group of faiths. I have no interest in a committee of multiple religions designing a place of worship for me.

If we need giant temples in order to survive, apparently our faith isn't that great.

A great many Pagans are attracted to their respective faiths precisely because it allows for individuality and personal forms of worship. I don't want a congregation-based faith. I don't want a lot of organization. I think a lot of organization would be disastrous for my faith.

A nice idea, but not a very practical one. There are literally hundreds of Pagan faiths, and each faith has particular traditions/paths. and within those paths each person has their own personal way of doing things. Besides, many Pagans don't like the idea of being "organized" in that fashion. Some of us have contempt for organized religion, and prefer the spontaneity and uniqueness of our chosen Pagan path.

Building a temple isn't going to prevent Pagan faiths from dying out. Faith is inside of us, not inside of a building. Pagan faiths will always be around--Pagan faiths are the fastest growing belief system (particularly Wicca and Witchcraft) in the US, Europe, and Australia. The earliest forms of Paganism go back to Paleolithic times (approx. 32,000 years ago). If they'll last that long, they're not going anywhere. We have nothing to worry about.

Actually Heathens on the whole are actually very organized. It's a pretty tight community. If you know where to look, we are all over the place LOL
We have several organizations, but I do most of my charity work on a local level with the UU Church I take the kids to. We make it clear who is donating and doing the work as well.

We will never die as a faith. We have been around for 25,000 years. Even when the "faith" died, the traditions did not. Humans have been fascinated with the old ways since forever, they just changed the word to mythology. In time perhaps we will see temples rise again. It will come.

Geek: What do you mean we don't have faith?

A lovely idea but probably not very workable, unfortunately. Getting people to agree on when to have rituals, sharing space, etc isn't likely to happen. Even having a central place would be up for debate and open to protests and vandalism. Think the local Christian churches would tolerate a pagan temple next door?

As for pitching in for food, that's not usually very much money and almost all pagans and heathens do charity works as well.

Your best bet would be to raise money for a temple to your individual branch of paganism on a piece of land that you own. I know of several Asatru groups that are doing that. It's harder to protest a temple/Hof when it's on private land.

We don't choose to organize - mostly because of past persecution from religions who don't agree with us (ie Christians). I personally cannot stand organized religion, and I had to get away from it.

Though I'm a Wiccan, I suppose Wicca is an organized religion now. Hmm.

And you have any idea how huge that temple would have to be? There are hundreds of pagan faiths.

paganism is far from dead.

in fact more people know what a pagan really is now than they did 10, 20 and 30 years ago.

we have more TRUE info circulating about us, than ever. and some people have stopped lying about us. not everyone mind you, but some.

paganism is about individuality, if we build a temple, then we might get clergy too, and then we would get doctrine, and then dogma.

lets leave the dogma to the christians and the muslims.

Good idea. We could build a generically pagan temple... bringing in statues that cover Hellenic paganism, Kemeticism, and paganism of the British Isles... that covers almost everyone in one way or another. Woot.

How does a religion without faith die as a faith???

Which pagan belief are you wanting to refer to...the earth gods and goddesses...the Aztecs...the Mayas...the Incas...the Egyptians...the Romans...the Greeks...etc...you need to choose before you build a temple...
