I'm thinking a misdemeanor, but if so, what usually happens when charged?

Certainly not prison, right?
So a fine? Community service?
Do cops usually give a warning, or bust you on a first offense?

(and no, im not planning to play my music too loud, lol. just curious, because i think this happened to a friend once, got cited for this)

It ranges from infraction (like a traffic ticket) to a misdemeanor.

Usually I warned on the first call, and sometimes on the second call, but my city allowed me to confiscate the source of the noise, and cite for misdemeanor disturbing the peace if I had to respond a third time in the same day (or night).

It is usually a CIVIL violation. Both misdemeanors and felonies are CRIMINAL violations. The standard definition of a felony is a crime for which the maximum sentence is 1 year or longer. Because I have never heard of serving ANY time for a noise violation, I would say at WORST it is a misdemeanor.

A noise violation is a misdemeanor. You usually get a citation for it. If the cop is in a generous mood, he/she might just give you a verbal warning the first time. If a person ends up getting arrested, it is because they have warrants, or the cop found contraband (drugs, weapons, etc).

it could be a warning, but most of the time it is a summary offense - a simple fine
