I really think sometimes we try to put people in boxes and
that can be an error----not all Christians have funerals in
a church. Some do, some do not.
Some choose cremation; some choose to donate their organs or bodies; some choose more natural settings for their funeral....
I would suspect that atheists or people of many different faiths
have a variety of different choices, too, for their final memorials....
Oh, and not only Christians have funeral services.
Archeology supports the belief that even centuries ago there were burial services by ancient peoples.....not nearly all of
whom were Christians....so we cannot hang that "depressing" sign on Christians for having funerals, either---
at least not fairly or honestly.
Perhaps it is not the service honoring our departed ones
that is so depressing, but the very thought that some people have that death is the end of it all. That once you are dead, you are gone, period.
Christians are not depressed about that, because we do
have eternal hope, not hopelessness, even in death----
"oh death, where is thy sting?"
We realize that there is far more beyond life here on earth.....
and though we grieve for our beloved dead, we also know
one day we will meet again....in a far better place beyond
this planet.

Bless you,
Doris

Funeral home, like many Christians. In fact, I don't see a lot of funerals happening inside churches. And we both end up in the same place.

I don't think Christians have funerals in Churches, I think they have a Service for the deceased, but I'm pretty sure most of the viewings are at a funeral home and the funeral is at a cemetery.

Funeral homes. Just like most everybody else. Christians just have an extra ceremony duriing the transfer from funeral home to grave site.

I agree with Richard Dawkins.
Who wants a funeral?
Funerals are so depressing,
but then again thats why Christians have them

Some have wakes, at funeral parlors...

The actual funeral is at the grave-site...

Some are cremated...

Some have their ashes scattered at sea, or somewhere else they enjoyed while alive...

Some might actually have theirs at a church...due to the relatives who would like to see them have a 'proper' funeral...

Many donate their bodies to science...but in many cases a Memorial Service is held...to celebrate that person's life...or mourn his/her death.

You can have a service at a funeral home, grave side, a memorial service at your home. Pretty much anywhere besides a Church.
