Well not my rights, but my mother in laws. She was driving and ran off the road and blew out both right tires. It was late at night and she was a few miles from a family members house so she drove the car to their house.

The next day she was able to get two tires on the car and drove it home but did say that the car pulled to the left a bit. She wants to take it to be looked at and she is covered by Progressive insurance.

Does she have the right to bring it to the repair shop of her choice? (I think the ins co asked for 2 estimates, but will they just pay for the lesser estimate of the 2?)

Does she need more than one estimate?(she drives a Lexus and wants to bring it there but the estimate is a few thousand more than the other no name place. shes not sure she wants to come out of pocket for the difference. will she have to?)

What are her rights?

If the insurance company will only pay the lower of two estimates, nothing says that she has to accept the estimate from the no name place! She can take her car to another Lexus dealer, and get a second estimate from them, and then the insurance will pay for the lower priced dealer to repair the car!

If there is that much of a difference in the estimates, I would bet the "no name" shop missed something!

If the insurance company asked her for 2 estimates - then she needs to submit at least 2 estimates from the repair facilities of her choice. It's pretty standard for a company to ask for 2 estimates.

Progressive may be able to send an appraiser out to look at her vehicle if she is unable/unwilling to get estimates. However, the appraiser will make vehicles that are not drivable a priority. So it may take a few days before one comes out - but it can be done.
