My question is in regards to communication via particular religions to God, i'm 16 and i WANT to have faith in a higher power, i was a muslim (my dad is one and so naturally, so was i) and i'm sorry if this is wrong or offends you but pretty much all of it was just praise to God (Allah) and its more or less the same with Christianity and Sikhism (the only three religions i know "well" of) again, this is all from my perspective - correct me if im wrong.
I dont believe connecting to god should be done by praising him, im not sure what one should say during prayer but i think it should be more on the lines of "Hi God, i've been feeling a little down today, not sure if its because of this or this but i think the only way i can be happy is by doing this" It sounds really trivial and unspectacular but i think its better. Lol anyway, back to the question...
How does your religion/ a religion connect to God with the words/ communication used?
and
Any thoughts on what i've said?

@green_meklar: But just because you cant see a giant pile of gold coins in front of you doesnt mean it doesnt exist, perhaps it just means you are too far away to reach it, indeed i do believe there is a giant pile of gold coins somewhere and i can get to it if i start walking towards it, Atheism to me seems logical, but i also see it as the easy way out - it is quite effortless and you do more or less feel like your taking the higher ground in terms of intelligence but i do believe getting closer to God will bring me closer, and more at one with myself, i believe i will be happier and more loving/ giving to others and myself but perhaps most importantly i think that believing in this God is the right thing to do.

Wonderful! I do this all the time! i speak to him just like a person..and, to my knowledge, He likes it that way...just because He is a Spirit Being..does not mean that He wants to be spoken in terms less than we speak to others,or more..when He speaks to us, it's on our leval, so, why not to Him on the same leval He speaks to us on? The thing about "Praise, is when i am happy toward Him, i say kind things and tell Him how happy i am, and how good it is He is a part of my life and how i love for it to be that way..." or, if i pray and askand He answers, and this makes me happy also, and i tell Him about this too...(praise) no differant than when a father does something for his child and they love him for it? "Peace!"

>i'm 16 and i WANT to have faith in a higher power
Okay, let's get something straight here. Just because you want to believe in something doesn't mean it exists, or that believing in it is rational or valid. The real world does not respond to your desires and emotions this way.
For example, I want there to be a giant pile of gold coins right in front of me. Does that mean there actually is one? No. Does that mean I should believe there is one? No. Does it say anything at all about the existence of such a thing in the real world? No. Why? Because the Universe doesn't care what I believe. It is a certain way, and it stays that way no matter what we decide to have faith in. This goes as much for you and everyone else as it does for me.
I just want to make sure that's clear, because unfortunately there seem to be many people who don't understand it. :\
>I dont believe connecting to god should be done by praising him
That makes sense. If God exists, and is omnipotent, then there is no good reason for him to require praise from people. God asking us to worship him makes about as much sense as you asking the ants in an ant farm to worship you, and for the same reason (namely, that it doesn't help you in any way to have them worship you). As some atheists have said in the past, if God has such low self-esteem that he needs us to worship him, is he really worth worshipping?
>i think it should be more on the lines of "Hi God, i've been feeling a little down today, not sure if its because of this or this but i think the only way i can be happy is by doing this" It sounds really trivial and unspectacular but i think its better.
Um...this doesn't make very much sense either. See, if God is omnipotent and omniscient with regards to our universe, then he can tell exactly what you are thinking at all times, and so telling him or asking him something doesn't give him any information he doesn't have already. You telling God how you feel is sort of like someone with red hair walking up to you and telling you they have red hair; it's not useful to either party because no one is gaining any more information than they already have.
>How does your religion/ a religion connect to God with the words/ communication used?
I'm an atheist, so I don't have a religion, nor do I believe God exists.
>Any thoughts on what i've said?
See above. :)

Well, first off, only you can connect to God in the way you want to. You have to find YOUR way to connect and talk to God -- after all, its YOURS and GOD's relationship not anyone elses.
And I think you are partly correct when you said, "I dont believe connecting to god should be done by praising him" the only thing that I would change from my perspective would be to say, "I dont believe connecting to god should be done [ONLY] by praising him" because I think that as a believer in God that you should praise Him. .but that's not the only way you should connect with God. In my opinion, building a relationship on praise alone isn't that solid of a relationship.
When you said you didn't know what to say during prayer. .well, once again. .no one can decide that except you. Like I said, its your relationship. I, nor anyone else, can build it for you. If you want my advice just say what you want to say. Having a strong faith and relationship with God doesn't just happen with the snap of your fingers -- it takes time, dedication, strength, and faith.
Anyway, I connect to God by praying, praise, faith, and trying to learn more about my religion and other religions.
Hope I helped. If you have any more questions feel free to email me.

Your question is very interesting because you come under the young growing human beings with soul, spirit and body. Those God loves so much and declared as the "greatest" amongst all the things He created. But who is this God you mentioned severally in your question? You will read from answers to some questions and yours, many that will add more confusion to yours. Our God is real, is a Spirit. Existed before the beginning. Created Himself and all things. Omnipotent, omniscience, and omnipresence etc.Reveals Himself to everything including human beings He created according to level of believing Him.Absolute revelation of Himself through whom He called His son, Jesus Christ, after many revelations of Him by His human prophets.
Therefore when you know whom God is, praising Him or kind of prayers you offer will depend on your personal relationship with Him.

I think you are already off to a very good start by talking to God from your heart, not by imitating what you think God might want to hear. When you draw closer to God, praising him will come naturally. As Jon said above, praise is a by-product of love. Love is the most important.

Well, if you are exploring Christianity, I would tell you to consider the source of it. That is: The Bible.
The main difference between Islam and Christianity is Jesus. I know that Muslims say that they believe in Jesus, but they don't tend to believe what He said. This is one of the things that He said:
17 "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."
( John 3 )
So what does that mean to you? Isolate this and think about it a bit.

you are talking good, writing good but not thinking good. Is God created the religions sir ? why God reincarnated ? is it for God's benefits ? why you connect these with celebration of deepavali with prophets, reincarnations and religions ? i am confused. God sent messengers to guide people to the truth and so they could be purified of sin. Those who were enlightened by the Messengers found the way to Divine presence and attained the highest rank of humanity. In the word of Ibrahim Haqqi, "God declared that he could not be contained by the heavens and earth. He can be known and reached only through hearts." This is why messengers led humanity to the knowledge of God." why Mahavishnu came to earth on reincarnations ? it is for the people and to guide people. He did not come to earth to start a new religion. The religions were created by the people, for the people and to the people. The hinduism, islam, christianity and other religions and its priests, mutt heads, church fathers, pope, hindu acharyas always preaches harmony and peaceful living. THE RELIGIONS ORIGINATED PURELY TO UPLIFT AND WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE. The religions are a guide to the mankind. The religions teaches good and telling about bad. To whom scriptures, texts are created by our great elders ? IT IS PURELY TO LIVE PEACEFULLY. FOR PEACEFUL LIVING OUR ELDERS CREATED MANY HOLY TEXTS. parithranaya saadhoonam vinasaya chadhushkridham dharma samsthabanarthaaya sambavami yuge yuge no need explain with meaning to you since you know the meaning. As per your points all are not necessary. you mean unnecessary. If creation is unnecessary how you come to the earth ? If incarnation unnecessary who will come and establish dharma in the earth ? please think.

The idea that God wants only our praise is a very basic and spiritually immature one.
What God wants -- and it doesn't matter if you call Him God, or Allah, or The Universe -- is for us to love Him and each other.
Praise is a by-product of a true believer's love.

For myself, I think it's important to distinguish my spiritual belief in God, from "the God" of religion.
"Religion", itself, dictates that do you certain things to be able to commune with God, have a relationship with "Him", go to heaven, ect... I believe differently. My faith/thinking is more in line with Christian Gnostics.
