I am ashamed of his drunken rampage but proud of some of the work he has done as an actor and as a director.
Just like everybody else, Mel Gibson is not perfect, he's human. All humans have good and bad things about them, things that other people can be proud of as well as things that other people can be ashamed of.

Mel Gibson, did a wonderful Job on his films and If I were a Catholic, would be very proud of him and his ability to get the message across. He is Great !!

Why should I be either proud or ashamed of someone who is not a real Catholic?
It seems that Mr Gibson has broken away from the Catholic Church and joined a "Traditional Catholic Church" that rejects some of the teachings of the "real" Catholic Church.
In fact he has donated millions to help finance building a "Traditional Catholic Church" in Agoura Hill, California.
This church is not recognized by the Catholic Church because it does not acknowledge the authority of the pope or the Vatican.

Mel Gibson is not a Roman Catholic. He belongs to an offshoot religion that is not accepted by the Catholic Church.

As a Christian (ahem) and Catholic ... I have no opinion on Mel other than he's a decent actor. I'm not about to judge whether he is or isn't a decent Christian. Not my call.

LOL, the nerve of that "realchurch" to protest being lumped with the Catholics. has he ever thought that Catholics don't want to be lumped with the likes of him?
anyway, back to the question, I think Catholics don't really care what Mel Gibson do.

Mel Gibson is the embodiment of everything that can go wrong in a religious person. He is a traditionalist Catholic by many of his beliefs but I don't think he does a good image for the church.

I am proud of his cinematic accomplishment "The Passion of the Christ", but also feel sorry for him because of his anti-Semitic tirade.
