Both have their benefits. Dish network can be highly unreliable when it's rainy or windy outside & if you rent, most of the dish companies refuse to install for you unless you have renter's insurance. Then again, with comcast you can also have insane prices & sometimes shoddy digital cable services.
I prefer Comcast, but if anyone was to come out with a viable 3rd option that I as a renter could get, I'd definately look into it. However most of the things I've seen are either too expensive, too much trouble, or not very reliable.

Have you tried DISH Network or have you heard opinions?
I did Comcast online sales for a long period of time, around the time when they first introduced their PowerBoost technology. I also had the Comcast Triple Play.
Let me tell you - it was horrible! First off, their Digital Voice service had much packet loss and at times, I would not even have a dial-tone. As for their Digital Cable service, that was also a very big problem. At the time I had it, in the period of 4-weeks, we had about 4 or 5 service calls, as the cable box would freeze. The last technician that came out, told us that they were experiencing that problem system-wide and they were working on it.
I have since been with DISH Network, and have had nothing but good results. I get so many more channels for a lot less.
Here are numbers for DISH Network service:
1-888-DISH-996 - New Customers
1-800-333-DISH - Existing Customers

comcast is better then both fios and dish, the dish sucks everyone knows that, fios is just verizon's version of cable, comcast has been doin fiber optics for years verizon just started, moreover the on demand feature on comcast adds to its value whereas both verizon and dish lack this feature, comcast also has a 24 hour customer service center thus they provide assistance round the clock, neither verizon or dish do this...trust me the list goes on and on

Comcast's on-demand is great. Cable has no rain fade either. With the digital guide Comcast has using the DVR has never been easier.

If you get the dish make sure there is no trees within a mile because mine worked only about 20% of the time due to trees or rain or wind or whatever.
