There were *some* God-fearing people that participated in the founding of this country.
Regardless, even if every single one of them had been a staunch Christian, this is a free country NOW. That means that you have a right to worship or NOT worship as you see fit. It means that no one person has any more value or rights than any other person who lives here. So anyone who tries to use the word "creator" from the Declaration of Independence to claim superiority needs to get over themselves.
And for the record, the CONSTITUTION, which is the actual law, is an entirely secular document.

The British Monarchy had the rule of "divine right" which means God wanted them to be king. Endowed by their creator was a slap to the Monarchies face, it basically was a declaration of Self Government. BTW Thomas Jefferson was a Unitarian, who had a copy of the Qu'ran.

God fearing people who understood that all were created equal and in that equality they are endowed the inalienable right to freedom of (or from) religion.

Creator generally refers to the Deist watchmaker deity, not the personal deity of YHWH and Yeshua. Even ignoring that fact, the Declaration holds no legal significance whatsoever. The Constitution, which is legally valid, has no mention of any deity whatsoever.

Ironic that the actual Constitution doesn't mention God isn't it? Just because they believe in a God, even a Christian God doesn't mean they are the same type of Christian as the fundies are. Nor does it mean that because they were "Christian" that they wanted Christianity to be above all others in government. It is arrogant assumption that just because a person is the same religion by name that they believe in the same politics.

I don't dispute that some of those people were religious. However, I also understand that the reason they came here was to escape religious persecution. They believed in freedom of religion. That is what this country was founded on.
