So, I am studying for my Property and Liability Insurance Principles Exam (INS 21). I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some good help online with studying. I have Adult ADD, so I'm getting real frustrated with the fact that despite the medication I'm having a hard time because it is NOT hands on. If I was just applying it to my job on a daily basis I would get it the first time I used it, but because it's from a book it's like I have to study the same subtopic of a chapter for 6 hours before I ever understand it.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some good help online with studying for this particular exam...sample questions or an outline of the book...anything.

It has been a long time since I took the INS exams but I can tell you that the coursebook is invaluable. The coursebook is $38.00. The coursebook is not the same as the text book.

It outlines each chapter of the text book and gives you the educational objectives of each chapter. I went through each objective to be sure I had some idea of each so that if it came up in the exam I was at least familiar with it, if not well versed in it. If you go through all of the objectives of each chapter there will be no surprises on the exam.

I see that IIA now offers review notes and flash cards which you might find helpful.

It's been years since I took INC (I did it back when it was still essay).

Anyway - there are other study materials available for purchase. SMART makes some and KERR does as well.

The SMART materials are the ones I use -although I have used KERR before. The course guide will be questions that you answer. There is also a practice exam CD that you can order.

The materials should be available through the AICCPCU.
http://www.aicpcu.org/

Give them a call. They have advisers who are very friendly and may be able recommend which materials you want.

If you are in a larger city - the local chapter of the CPCU society may put on classes. When I lived in Raleigh, I took a class through the local chapter- cost $100.00. You should be able to do an Internet search and get a contact number for the local CPCU society.

Good Luck.

You have some good answers here already. Bottom line is that you need to talk to both an insurance agents and a lawyer. These two professionals need to coordinate their efforts. the agent can set you up with the right amount AND TYPE of insurance. Keep in mind that you CAN own both term and permanent insurance. The lawyer can write the legal documents that you need so that if you die, a trust with very specific language will determine who and how the money from the insurance policy is used. When dealing with large amounts of money (and a million is a lot) normal people do strange things to get their hands on it. Their desires may not always be what YOU want for your kids. Setting up the legal documents allows your wishes to be followed. I applaud your desire to plan ahead. Good Luck *

You'll be much better off if you make your OWN outline of the book.

But here's a place where you can take a sample test:

I used the study materials that came with the book. The flash cards helped a lot.
