No, I don't think you have to put an egg in the recipe.

unfortunately in baking, it is a precise science. when a recipe calls for something, there is a very good reason for it. eggs are the protein binder in baked goods. they hold everything together so that they don't fall apart. measuring in baking has to be extremely precise or it won't turn out correctly.

substitutions for 1 egg could be the following:

1/4 cup liquid egg substitute
2 egg yolks and 1 TB water
2 1/2 TB sifted egg powder and 2 1/2 TB lukewarm water

That's about it. you really cannot omit the egg from sugar cookies as there really isn't any other liqud in the batter and it won't form properly.

Do you just not have eggs? Can you ask a neighbor? Or is it because you can't have eggs?

The egg is the protein binder that holds the dough together. If you don't add the egg, your cookies will be a crumbled mess after baking.
