I can not get a dial tone. My phone flashes letting me know I have a message with my phone service provider. I put another phone on the line to make sure the phone is not just broken. No phone works on the line. And the strange part to me is that I have internet service, which is coming in on the same line from the same provider, Centuty Tel. Just wondered if this seemed strange to anyone else.

Unplug everything from the master socket and try a known working phone in it. If still no dial tone ring your service provider and report a fault.
If dial tone is present, you have a faulty piece of equipment plugged into an extension which is causing the fault. Use trial and error to localise what it is.

BTW, broadband (DSL) will work over a faulty ( certain faults) line even though dial tone will not.

Best of luck.

DSL will work even if there is a trouble on the line..

DSL requires only a single wire to work, your telephone requires both wires in order to work properly..

if there is a break in one side of your line, your dsl will still work but the dial tone will not..

if there is a short on your wiring, the dsl may work but the phone will not..

If you are on broadband, it's probably the microfilter (the gizmo that is plugged in between the phone and the wall. It separates the audio from the data). They are cheap enough to replace. There is one for every phone socket, so if you have another socket in the house, swap the microfilters around.
