If you find any great tips, let me know - that sounds exactly like my hair right now. (Mine does a flippy thing on the ends too though...)
I usually use a de-frizz shampoo and conditioner (they calm down the poof), then throw it into a ponytail. If it's a good hair day, I'll leave it down, but part it on the side.

Try blowing it dry with a extra large round brush.(Don't forget a little bit of mousse) Then put a touch of styling cream in it ,Such as Bumble & Bumble .But,be careful a little bit goes a really long way. (after it's dried) Then if you want a little more definition, you can then use a flat iron to create either some flipies.or whatever,or just to straighten even more. Or to flip just at the ends. But you may not even have to even use it at all. A really good cut is key!

I think i have an idea for you, sounds like we have the same hair! One way i have just recently started to do my hair is, after coming out of the shower, flip all your hair over, so its hanging in front of your face, make sure that you have not dryed it yet. Let the water drip for a little, than with your hands grabs handfuls of your hair and squeeze it tightly. Do this all over your head with all your hair, once done, your hands should be soaking wet and your hair shoudl be in wet forming curls. Next, if you do not have like some sort of styling product, body lotion works just as well, dab only about a PEA's worth of lotion or hair product into the palm of your hand, than rub your hands together and repeat the process of grabbing handfulls of you hair and squeezing. Once down with that, flip your hair onto you back, look into a mirror and squeeze all the places you may have missed, and LEAVE IT ALONE. in 10-15mins you will have very nautral sexy tight looking curls, and they wont look heavy or fake! NO hair spray or a curling iron needed!
Hope it works! Good luck :)

if you get your hair cut with lots of layers like in the photo from above the hair will fall more naturally instead of becoming to poofy! Try using a scrunching spray when your hair is till wet like aussi SPRUNCH spray that will make your hair wavy and look pretty and feminine, use a moose such as Loreal curly moose to keep the waves in place! http://z.about.com/d/beauty/1/0/8/H/curls1.JPG

you could do a pompadour, where you bangs are pulled back then pinned with bobby pins.
that can be messy or sleek.
i perfer messy.
if you do the messy one try using texturizing spray or cream.
:D
^ for a different version of that you could leave your bangs down then pull everyhting behind that up.
you could do a normal ponytail.
or a messy one,
if you do a messy one than texturizing cream works good.
try teasing your ponytail for a twist on the boring look.
:D
you could leave your bangs down then pull the rest of your hair into a messy bun or a twist,
to do a twist just pull your hair into a ponytail then twist it until it gets tighter,
then wrap a ponytail around it.
:D
you could wear headbands, for shorter hair skinny ones look the best.
or you could even try making your own by wraping a ribbon around your head.
:D
good luck,
for more info you can go onto seventeen.com or pick up one of their magazines, they have great hairstyles.

OMG! thats just how my hair is! I would recommend getting it permanently straighted. Well acctually it last for 6 months than you have to come back a do it again. After that i would get it feathered and if you like get some highlights! It will look totally lush
