They claim that Jesus is god. Therefore Mary is the mother of god.

What is the best way to influence the son?, Through the mother..

Short cut to overriding their god.

Or

Just another form of idolatry. for which they are famed..!!

Alex: Lazar seems a quit upset. Guess he won't be going to no Nutcracker Suite this year.
Mary was a good woman, but God could have used any woman He wanted to. In Jeremiah 44 it talks about the queen of heaven( Isis). Jeremiah was to tell the people not to worship her. This slowly got moved over to Catholicism calling mary the queen of heaven and the bible specifically says not to worship her or any other being or thing. God, Jesus, and the Holy spirit (the Trinity) are all one and this is the only one to worship and answer to. Anything else would be idolatry. Mary did a great job but she is still human and a sinner like you and I and was only saved by the Grace of God through to salvation of Jesus Christ. She is not the intercessor of our prayers to the Father or Jesus. We have a direct line Ain't it wonderful? Satan will do anything to mis lead people from the truth which is Jesus Christ even His mother. Not all catholics are decieved by this and know the truth of worshipping the King. Hope this helped.

Mary is our Mother and Queen of the New Davidic Kingdom
John 19:26 - Jesus makes Mary the Mother of us all as He dies on the Cross by saying "behold your mother." Jesus did not say "John, behold your mother" because he gave Mary to all of us, his beloved disciples. All the words that Jesus spoke on Cross had a divine purpose. Jesus was not just telling John to take care of his mother.

Rev. 12:17 - this verse proves the meaning of John 19:26. The "woman's" (Mary's) offspring are those who follow Jesus. She is our Mother and we are her offspring in Jesus Christ. The master plan of God's covenant love for us is family. But we cannot be a complete family with the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Christ without the Motherhood of Mary.

John 2:3 - this is a very signifcant verse in Scripture. As our mother, Mary tells all of us to do whatever Jesus tells us. Further, Mary's intercession at the marriage feast in Cana triggers Jesus' ministry and a foreshadowing of the Eucharistic celebration of the Lamb. This celebration unites all believers into one famiy through the marriage of divinity and humanity.

John 2:7 - Jesus allows His mother to intercede for the people on His behalf, and responds to His mother's request by ordering the servants to fill the jars with water.

Psalm 45:9 - the psalmist teaches that the Queen stands at the right hand of God. The role of the Queen is important in God's kingdom. Mary the Queen of heaven is at the right hand of the Son of God.

1 Kings 2:17, 20 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the King does not refuse his mother. Jesus is the new Davidic King, and He does not refuse the requests of his mother Mary, the Queen.

1 Kings 2:18 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the Queen intercedes on behalf of the King's followers. She is the Queen Mother (or "Gebirah"). Mary is our eternal Gebirah.

1 Kings 2:19 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom the King bows down to his mother and she sits at his right hand. We, as children of the New Covenant, should imitate our King and pay the same homage to Mary our Mother. By honoring Mary, we honor our King, Jesus Christ.

1 Kings 15:13 - the Queen Mother is a powerful position in Israel's royal monarchy. Here the Queen is removed from office. But now, the Davidic kingdom is perfected by Jesus, and our Mother Mary is forever at His right hand.

2 Chron. 22:10 - here Queen Mother Athalia destroys the royal family of Judah after she sees her son, King Ahaziah, dead. The Queen mother plays a significant role in the kingdom.

Neh. 2:6 - the Queen Mother sits beside the King. She is the primary intercessor before the King.

Not sure why you concentrate on Catholics for this question. The mainstream Christian Churches, i.e. Roman Catholic, Russian, Greek, Orthodox, The Anglican Church all venerate Mary as the Mother of God. Each Church has its own traditions but they all venerate & honour Mary.
It just isn't on to single out Catholics.
Mary's role is essential to Christianity: She could have told the Angel Gabriel to get lost but She didn't. We don't pray to Mary as God but simply as a vehicle to God. Sometimes we may feel unworthy to ask God directly: I take it that you have never asked someone to intercede on your behalf?

We are all the children of God. Do you believe in the Trinity? Father, Son. and Holy Ghost? Remember when you were a little kid and you wanted your brother or sister to do something, you would go ask your mother to tell them? She would help you because she had a little more pull then if you just asked them yourself? Thats a strange way of putting it but it is similar to that. You aren't really praying to her. Just asking her help.Mary was a very Blessed Lady and we have a lot of admiration and respect for her. She was chosen out of anyone else.

Jesus is the illegitimate child of Saint Joseph. The Virgin Mary was never married to God the Holy Ghost, either! She was a single mother when she was birthing God the Son Jesus Christ! This is the only reason why the Early Church Fathers came up with the brilliant idea to keep Mary a virgin for ever otherwise the morality of the whole affair would be very, very questionable and most likely unacceptable, but the perpetual virginity idea made Christianity to fly!!! In those days it was very easy to edit anything written!!!

On top of all that God the Son Jesus Christ turned out to be a vicious killer of innocent children just like his Father in Heaven!

Revelation 2:23 (NIV) (Jesus says) I WILL STRIKE HER CHILDREN DEAD. Then ALL THE CHURCHES WILL KNOW that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

Luke 19:27 (Jesus was very excited telling this story!) But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and kill them in front of me.

Only a bloody tyrant would talk like that! Christians demand a much higher standard of morality from their clergy, and the preachers, and the politicians than from Jesus Christ! That's hypocrisy! Why is it that in Christianity everything is KILLING… KILLING… KILLING… and more KILLING…??? Isn’t Christianity a Barbaric religion just like Islam? All the sugar coating in Christianity is so repulsive! Can any Christian understand? Please, reporting me is not the best answer it only proves how puny is the Bible God!

Well, God chose her to give birth to his son, so she must be pretty special.
Plus, if we are to honour our mother and father, shouldn't we honour jesus' mother too?

EDIT: But isn't it fair to say that Jesus is a bit more important than most people?

O and the hail mary is pretty much a prayer for all women and mothers

Catholics do not put as much emphasis on the Blessed Virgin Mary as most non-Catholics think.

+ Saints +

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.

Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

+ The Blessed Virgin Mary +

"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you" (Luke 1:28)

"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb" (Luke 1:42).

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2673 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt4sect1chpt2art2.htm

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If not, why?

+ With love in Christ.
