I just had my eyebrow piercing taken out last night and am letting the hole heal up because it was migrating and rejecting and I'm going to have a scar. I was reading that putting Vitamin E on the scar while it's healing can help minimize the scar, but the only Vitamin E I have in the house is in baby oil. I'm thinking maybe it won't be a good idea to put baby oil on the healing piercing - even if it does have Vitamin E in it - because it might clog the hole or prevent it from getting enough air.

Is it OK to use the baby oil? If not, what form of Vitamin E should I use?

I'm an Esthetician and after studying skin in school and working in the field, I have learned that although Vitamin E oil and creams containing Vitamin E are great for the skin (tocopherol is the chemical name for vitamin E, so that's what it would be listed as in the ingredient label on product), you should ONLY USE VITAMIN E after a wound has healed.

While there is still an open cut, burn, or wound of any kind it's best to use something to protect it from the environment and protect it from infection. As someone already mentioned, neosporin or another antibiotic ointment (such as bacitracin) would protect it from the environment and infection, and it can speed healing and help reduce scarring.

Baby oil isn't going to help it. While it is an excellent moisturizer for dry skin, it doesn't have the same properties as the ointments, and it can clog your pores resulting in a breakout. It's not going to help... you're probably doing your skin a disservice by using it.

Use a vitamin E product AFTER the cut has healed to aid in making the scar/mark go away. It is a common misconception that Vitamin E will heal a wound. The real deal is that it is great for using right after a wound has healed to prevent or fade the mark the wound has caused.

If it scars you can also opt for using a renewing eye cream containing regenerating ingredients like AHA's or Renitnol (known for resurfacing skin). They can be irritating at first, but your skin adjusts to them after a little while. They'll also begin to erase fine lines and wrinkles, and keep your skin tone clear.

The skin around the eye area is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face skin, so it's probably more prone to scarring. Make sure you give it extra attention and care that it needs! (the bottom part of your peircing is on the top lid right?) I would trade the baby oil with vitamin E for the antibiotic ointment asap.

Good luck and I hope it helps!

I would let the hole close up first then start applying the vitamin E. You can get it anywhere. Buy the gel capsules and poke them with a pin and squeeze out a little gel and apply it several times a day.

NO BABY OIL!! It clogs your pores and you can get an infection. Buy pure vitamin E in the nutrition aisle in the store.
