After all in Canada it is a crime to say anti-Semetic thing and you will go to jail. In the US and Israel they have free speach. We should be more like Canada were they arrest those who do hate speech right?

Hopeless - here is some census data for you - see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demography_of_Canada True the non-Caucasian population might be one non-caucasion to every seven at best (or 1 out of 8 - not one out of five) - No your own country please - MikeInRI - who is proud to say he has Canadian relatives. :-)!!!

H - Any hate speech is illegal in Canada - you should look it up. This is the Israel board so anti-Semitism raising its head here is sort of more repugnant. I would be like people writing nasty things about Islam on the Saudi board for example.

Hi 'h'
- I think you're twisting what the asker says, in all honesty. His point is not JUST that anti semitism is illegal in Canada, but that ALL racism is. I hate all prejudice - I'm Jewish but I have answered racist posts about Muslims in other sections and I have defended Muslim people. I would like to think that some Muslims would defend Jews in this way, though personally I haven't yet seen it happen.
What Mike is saying, also, is that there are many racist remarks and posts in the Israel section, and most of them are about Jews. It's really nasty - and we all should be condemning it, whether Jewish, Muslim or Christian.

Arresting people for "free speech" even if it is odious "hate speech" is a slippery slope. This is because it is a short skip and hop to certain people arbitrarily defining what "hate speech" actually is. It may just end up "covering" things both you and I have said.
In case you want to see a recent Canadian example, look up Mark Steyn and some people's issues with Maclean's magazine printing excerpts from his book "America Alone".
On the other hand, although I admit I am not that familiar with my own country's hate speech laws, I can safely tell you that people do not just get arrested for saying anti Semitic things here, since I have noticed that the police have not arrested a great number of anti semites who have definitely uttered "hate speech".

I do not support spreading hate. But what about freedom of speech and democracy? Is this not what the West want to bring to the Middle East? Just up to a certain extent?
BTW: why is it a crime to say anti semitc things but it's not considered a crime to insult the Islamic Relgion?
Are Jews a special kind of people? I do not think so. We all equal and that how we should get teated.
Why is it not both ways? Without any judgement. The Jews were not liked anywhere. That's a historical fact. I do not know why and it does not matter right now. After the Holocaust happend (what I feel sorry for) the Jews are in a special position.. Other people/nations also suffering and are humilated ,also when other governments are not doing such a "good" job like the Nazis did.
How is it in Canada? Will all people be arested who say something hateful about another nation, or only if they are "anti-Semitic"?

Oh yeah I see how there is free speech in USA. Didn't you hear of what happened to Mel Gibson when he said some anti-semetic remarks?
I bet the same thing he said is said thousands times everyday all over the world and he was drunk when he said and more to that he said in on street not on TV and you saw what happened to him. They made him like an insect and destroyed his fame as a great actor for just saying his opinion.
I am not defending him but you know that what he said is said by thousand others everyday, and he was saying his opinion. Is this what you call it freedom of speech in USA?
And by the way, Canadians are so nice and they never insult anyone even if the Law allows them. They are so tolerant and peaceful.
Peace
Great answe h. Thanks
Geen_eyed,
you haven't seen Muslims defending Jews because you didn't look for it. I always defend the Jews in other sections and even against my own people. I never saw a Jew defending Muslims though. Again because I never looked for it.
Peace

If only you could the world would be a much better place. Cheers!
Ultra National: a point of interest, 2 days ago the count came in 1 out of every 5 people in Canada are of asian or middle eastern descent. Europeans are no longer the majority of immagrants. Now show me one place on earth where so many different people can live together , tolerate each other and respect each other this much. Cheers!
Yes H! They will be arrested, any group that rallies in the street and spreads hate about any other group will be. Its the only way that so many people from so many cultures can live together in one place.
To note: We don't put people in jail for years and beat them! We put them in for a few hours , fine them, and let them go. Depending upon how many arrests they have had. And also to note: I have seen maybe 2 rallies (hate rallies) in the last 2 years. And the number of people rallying would make anyone laugh, maybe 10 people?
Mike the report came out 2 days ago, on CBC I don't think its in Wikipedia yet try searching CBC. Cheers!
Mike before you begin to be so "know it all" and put down others by saying, "no your own country", you should learn to be polite, thanx.

Americans believe in freedom of speech which is why you can say Islamofascist and I can say judeofascist. I'm aware jews don't share our values - and I've been aware from the first I heard of it that there one purpose only to the proposed "hate crimes" laws - namely,to make it illegal to criticize so-called jews. Not anyone else - just them. Because they are Just So Special.
Actually, the world would be greatly enriched if another empire should produce another Titus.
