just because i'm pro-choice doesn't mean i'm going to go on abortion spree. it doesn't mean i've even had one ever. all it means is that i believe a woman has the right to choose what she wants to do with HER body. if you say being pro choice makes me less of a catholic because i go directly agaisnt their beliefs, then i guess anyone who opposes bush isn't an american? after all he is our president right now. :-X

thanks for all the answers everyone! :)

You can be anything you want to be. Religion tries to take away anything it can from womanhood. It's to bad women won't stand up for themselves. I'd love to see some man be pregnant and go through the ordeal - then be anti-abortion. It would certainly shut them up.

Maybe you need to reconsider the label "pro choice" for yourself. If you believe that abortion would be murdering your own child and you are confident that you would never have an abortion, you're not really pro-choice. Catholics agree that each individual woman is in control over her own body. Being pro-life doesn't mean you are controlling somebody else.

Personally, I am opposed to abortion in all cases, but I recognize the fact that making it illegal is not the answer. The only way to stop a woman from having an abortion is to remove the situation that leads her to think that's her only choice. Women almost always get abortions because they think they have no choice, not because they do. Their boyfriends have threatened to leave, their parents are making them, they have no money, no home, no job or whatever. If you answer those needs, then there's no need for abortion. That's what I try to do.

The problem vanishes when you change the TIMEFRAME for making the choice.

As a Catholic, urge women to choose NOT to get pregnant until they want a child.

Then write your congressperson about legislation that will do the following:
A) Allow the dissemination of contraceptives to EVERY female of child-bearing age without permission from parent, guardian or significant other.
B) Make federal funds available for those who cannot afford same.
C) Turn the abortion clinics into contraceptive clinics with doctors who examine each female to ascertain which would be the best and safest contraceptive for that female and federally fund them through Medicaid.
D) Set up adoption agencies that actually counsel girls and women to make absolutely sure that they cannot or will not keep the child.
E) Make rape and incest capital offenses. Or life without parole. At the very least, compulsory castration as part of their sentence. The idea is to make bloody certain that they never do it again!

If you want to save lives, including those women who commit suicide as a result of their abortion and the subsequent depression that too often follows such a step, get out there and make your voice heard!

Being pro-choice this way IS being pro-life and not just for the baby!

It doesn't.

That person is a jerk who probably needs to drive off the face of a cliff.

That being said, there are many people who don't seem to understand that little collections of cells are not considered by many to be actual humans. There are also many people who don't understand that people who are pro-choice are not necessarily pro-ABORTION. I support that a woman has the right to choose--but I do not support abortion as an option for myself (except under certain circumstances).

A belief like this does not make you any more or less Catholic, and don't let what that idiot said get to you too much.

perhaps think approximately to reconsider the label "expert decision" for your self. in case you assume that abortion might desire to be murdering your very own toddler and you're beneficial which you merely might desire to below no circumstances have an abortion, you're actually not any extra incredibly expert-decision. Catholics agree that each guy or lady woman is in take care of over her very own physique. Being expert-existence would not recommend you're controlling everybody else. individually, i'm destructive to abortion in all situations, although I relish the indisputable fact that making it unlawful isn't the respond. the main effective option to resign a woman from having an abortion is to do away with the premiere situation that leads her to assume it is her maximum powerful decision. women people often get abortions because of the fact they assume they have no decision, no longer because of the fact they do. Their boyfriends have threatened to leave, their dad and mom are making them, they have no money, no place of abode, no activity or some ingredient. in case you respond those demands, then there is not any choose for abortion. that's what i attempt to do.

Pro-choice means that if a woman decides that it is in the interest of HER BODY to kill the child in her womb, you would have no problem with that as that choice is simply one choice amoung others. So therefore, if you support pro-choice, then you're supporting that option which is wrong. As a Catholic Christian, we can never be in support of anything that intentionally and maliciously destroys life. Remember "thou shalt not kill"?

Well pro-choice is abortion and abortion is against life. Essentially against the 5th Commandment. You might want to take a look at the official Catholic teaching http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm

Well, the Catholic Church explicitly takes a stance against abortion and birth control. You can be a Catholic and be pro-choice / pro-birth control, but there are some people who would disagree with you and claim that you are wrong.

It means you're an American Catholic. You're Catholic, but you don't follow everything that the Pope says. You're not less of a Catholic, but less observant than some strict Catholics.

I am pro-choice and anti-abortion and Catholic. If the anti-choice people wanted to end abortion they would work to remove the undue economic pressures on women and families that make people scared to bring children into the world. How many anti-choice people also oppose universal healthcare and are against raising the minimum wage? Did outlawing abortion ever stop it from happening? I think you are still Catholic.
