broke the rules turkey trot or not the rules are th rules and one of the great things about golf when played properly not by hackers like half you lot are is that you play by the rules not bend them or ignore them as you feel fit. Next thing it will be like football where everyone ignores the rules all the time especially the so called "professionals"

Strictly speaking they should have marked the ball but a Turkey Trot is more of a fun game than a strict competition so I personally wouldn't make an issue of it.

Winter rules allow you to move your ball away from the mark it made if one was made I believe you can move the ball 8 or 9 inches no closer to the hole.Even if it is not in the mark. You also get to clean the ball on the fairways. You must always mark on the greens

strickly speaking the ball should have been marked before lifting-however it may have been that the ball left its own mark and therefore was easily repositioned if needs be.in a winter game and a turkey trot you may want to look at that interpretation and allow the presumed misdemenor and remember to watch out for the competitor come the summer!!!

In any of the season ending, just for fun tournaments the rules become a side issue. Winter rules leave a lot to personal interpretation.

The person SHOULD have marked their ball but it's not exactly crime of the century.

regardless of how loose people may become with the rules, they still apply, and any good golfer should know to mark his/her ball.
