It s an escape from facing overwhelming tasks and other issues. When I sleep I don t have to think about all the things I should be doing. Of course, when I do get up , the problems are still there and worse. Worse because for everyday I spend sleeping new problems or issues arise. It s a catch 22 situation. I don t have the energy or motivation to set baby step goals to help myself. This is depression. Devastatingly debilitating depression. Yes, I see a psychiatrist. Yes, I ve been on just about every antidepressant ever made. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. All I know is I can t live like this. This is not living, but merely existing. I m a prisoner of my mind, trapped. I can t find a way out. Does anybody else out there feel this way? I don t want to think this I just happening to me. Days without a shower, changing clothes, getting mail, answering the phone. Similar to agoraphobia. Does anyone have suggestions? I can t even force myself to do everyday things most take for granted. Brushing your teeth, washing your face. I just don t care. Wow, I need help. Reading back on what I just wrote is horrible. Help, mayday, mayday, sos, sos.

Ive been going through this same situation since I was a teenager
sleeping some 16hrs plus.
I really feel that it is rooted in depression ( at least in my case )
But hey Im not a Dr. I just know that in the winter months I sleep a lot more and it seems due to the fact that Im depressed about not being able to move around like I normally would during spring/summer months.
In fact during spring summer months I dont remember sleeping very much at all. I am very active and always on the go.

Sounds like reverse insomnia! I'd suggest taking some time to really relax and not just sleep. Sleeping feels great, but there are certain processes that occur during sleep that really rejuvenate us. It's possible that even though you sleep longer the processes happen less with you (this is all hypothesis). So I'd suggest taking a day to sleep in an isolation tank, your body will be totally undisturbed and will gain full rest, heck you may come out feeling like you know the meaning of life.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Well. I have really bad insomnia. I don't really know how to fix this. I eat healthy, work out as regularly as I can but yet I still can't sleep. Sleep is a crazy thing. I think you'll either get used to it, or it'll go away. Maybe you should try to devote a whole week or something to try and catch up on sleep. Put everything aside and just sleep as much as you can until you've slept so much you don't want to anymore. Maybe you're trying too hard to get away from sleeping when really you should just give in.

I was thinking mono, but since you said 1-2 years, I don' t think it could be that. Have you told your doctor about this. Maybe there is sort of medication he can put you on.
Maybe you need to get a routine. Like go to bed at the same time every night and wake up every morning at the same time. I find that this makes me more awake during the day if I keep "regular" sleeping hours. Also, exersise might help. Do it at the same time every day too.
Have you tried having a cup of coffee in the morning or maybe 2 cups. This could help perk you up for the day.
If you wake up really early in the morning maybe you need a small nap during the day. Like for 1 hour or so. You could try that.

You could be vitamin deficient or have chronic fatigue syndrome. It's not Narcolepsy or you'd just fall asleep during class or whatever you are doing with little if any control of when you fall asleep. It could be your thyroid, hormones, stress, depression (even if you don't feel depressed, you could be dealing with it via sleep). You really should go see a doctor, this is affecting your concentration and probably school grades as well as relationships.

There are times when we all have a need to shut down and get rest even if it requires a period of 2 days to let the body rejuvenate itself. However, if you are have frequent episodes of fatigue then it could very well be attributed to a health issue including but not limited to infection. I would first address your nutritional intake to make sure you are not deficient in your health requirements. Nutritional imbalance can cause fatigue. Carefully examine and analyze your diet.
There are several other possible causes of your fatigue so it is important for you to get a complete physical checkup by a professional physician. You may have Narcolepsy or other Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I do find it very morally wrong. Because he doesn't deserve you he deserves someone way better who will treat him like he's everything. Your a pretty sick person to do this and not care at all, and then have to ask people on the internet if its wrong, you should know yourself that's it wrong and should just break it off with the poor guy so he can find someone better. :)
