Gradually English is becoming the world language. You can go nearly anywhere in the world and people can understand you, although obviously not every individual person yet speaks English.

It will take many years (possibly centuries) before everyone speaks one language, if it ever happens, but if it does, English will likely be the language.

Only recently has the need to speak a common language come to be. Even a few decades ago, you couldn't easily phone or travel great distances, and mail took weeks or months to arrive if you sent it across the world. Now, thanks to rapid advancements in transportation technology and computer networking, we can email people in seconds, phone them cheaply almost anywhere and travel across the globe in, at most, a day or two, and often much more quickly than that.

People tend to speak the language people around them speak. If you were born in Germany you would speak German, because that is the language that people use there. However, most schools now teach people English, even if English is not the native language, because of its utility as a language in business.

Because language developed in many parts of the world at the same time, so it is natural that it is different.
A universal language was tried a few years ago, it was called Esperanto, but didn't take off.
I think it would be sad if we all spoke the same. Languages are interesting as are dialects.

they attempted that...called Esperanto...a long time ago but it never really spread..im pretty sure theres still ways you can learn it on a certain website or something.

BUT language is what separates our cultures and makes them unique. if we had the same language, then different cultures wouldnt be so interesting. right?

because in the same time in different parts of Earth people developed languages it depended of environment and of nations, that because all languages are different. and i think when people will speak the same language it will be nearly the end of days.

I can't remember his name but ages ago someone introduced Esperanto which covered all the European languages but it didn't catch on.
Anyway it would mean that one subject would come off the school curriculum and you may have to do more science or maths or something else horrible!

beacause we all have different origins.. and, expecially in the past, when there weren't communication systems yet, it was impossible and unthinkable to conform the languages...
