Another name for manic depression is Bi-Polar disorder. An individual with this disorder has swings of Mania (highs) and depressions (lows). It could be like this... one minute you have the euphoria of winning the lottery and the next the depression of a loved one dying. Normal depression is just the lows and can be treated with anti-depressive medication. Bi-Polar disorder needs both the highs and lows stabilized. It's a roller coaster ride for those inflicted with it and those that live with the person inflicted.

They now tend to call it bi-polar condition because the person suffering from it varies from being very depressed and not able to function and even be suicidal to being not just on top of the world but over the top. Everyone is different in some it can vary from day to day or even hour to hour and some, like my wife, each state can last months or even years. It can be controlled by medication in a lot of cases. The problem then is that they don't know exactly what works and again everyone is different they so try all sorts of things and once it has worked you are very reluctant to give up the medication which can have side effects

Yes, I have it. It's pretty much hell. If you want to ask questions, message me.
Terrysainswho - Manic depression ISN'T just depression that's been diagnosed. Clinical depression is depression that's been diagnosed. Manic depression does have all of the symptopms of clinical depression, but it also has the symptoms of mania, too.

For me I have constant mood swings, like one minute I'm on top of the world and life is going perfect for me and then some tiny insignificant thing happens [or sometimes nothing happens at all] and it makes me feel like my life has no point and I might as well be dead.
For some people it's not as drastic but it always involves moods swings.

â That says some of the symptoms.
I have rapid cycling, which means that I go from one mood to another really quickly, I can go from dead happy to miserable several times a day sometimes.
For a lot of people they can stick with one mood for weeks or months and also have a normal mood between the changes.

Manic, just means it has been confirmed by a Doctor. It is an official diagnosis, and not someone saying I'm depressed. I wish you well. Terry.
