Matthew 7:16, 20) that one knows God's followers 'by their fruits'

An apple tree cannot give lemons.
The fruits of the spirit Galatians 5:22
love (agape);
joy (chara);
peace (eirene);
patience (makrothumia);
kindness (chrestotes);
goodness (agathosune);
faithfulness (pistis);
gentleness (prautes);
self-control (egkrateia,
against such things there is no law"
Cor: 13
suffers long;
is kind;
does not envy (ou zeloo);
does not parade itself (ou perereupmai);
does not get 'puffed up' (ou phusioutai);
does not behave rudely (ouk askemonei);
is not provoked;
does not think evilly, nor rejoice in sin;
rejoices in the truth;
bears all things;
believes all things;
hopes all things;
endures all things.
The opposite is seen about what is not a part of this character : gossip, the undermining of others, easily believing ill of others, loose sexual behavior, empty speech, quick temper, and most especially the eagerness for money.

Not directly, but I believe those who claim to be Christians are just wearing the label without understanding what it really means.
If we truly were a Christian Nation then there would be no homeless people or uncared for sick people or hungry people, because all the Christians would get together and help those in need without expectation of earthly reward or acknowledgment. People would put other peoples feelings ahead of their own, If they were really Christians. They would put themselves in anothers shoes before passing judgment on them, If they were really Christians. There would be no need for money because everyone would work together for the good of the survival of the species and the planet, because everything we created could have been created without money. Nothing would have been created by man that would harm the people or the planet in the first place.
There`s so much more to the story, but it would take to long and be to long for this forum.

Ok, let the thumbs down begin , but it won`t change the truth.

There are more references to disciples or believers than Christians in the Bible. So, there probably isn't one specific verse to meet your question.

But look in the New Testament, especially the Book of Acts, and you'll see time and again where people heard the message of Jesus and believed it personally. That's about the best I can do for you, and I hope that clarifies somewhat.

*edit* Scorpian's message has a lot of truth to it. Many people are not following Christ's message. But it doesn't change the fact that there are a LOT of rescue missions and other things that are indeed trying to meet the needs of people. Think of Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, similar missions in Norfolk, VA; Chillicothe, MO (featured in a "Parade" article a few years ago); and who knows how many other places. Much remains to be done, but much has been accomplished.

Acts 11:26 is the first time the term is ever used in history!

Also in Acts 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16

Outside of the Bible, Tacitus recorded that Nero blamed the "Christians" for the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64.

I don't think there is an actual verse that describes what a Christian is. However, there are principles in the Bible that GOD wants us to possess:

1. obedience
2. faith
3. repentance
These principles are evident throught the Bible.

Revelation 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Ecclesiastes 12:13  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Acts 20:21  Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Hope this helps.

GOD bless
