In Matthew, Jesus is a king.
In John, Jesus is the Son of God.
I like the gospel of John best, but there are things in Matthew not covered in John.

Matthew was an eyewitness to the events in Jesus' ministry and gives an amazingly accurate account. John, the son of Zebedee, was a disciple for a little longer than Matthew and gives detailed accounts too.
Really, though, neither could give a complete account of all Jesus did on this earth. Matthew's emphasis was that Jesus is the King of the Jews, the coming One they were expecting while John, a fisherman by trade, points to Him as the Son of God. It's great to have both of these Gospels, plus Mark and Luke, too! Please read and re-read all four of these. You will enjoy them all!
