seems like when i'm holding mine it keeps slipping away from me

nope hands aren't sweaty, and i've never had this problem with ps 1 or ps2

No, I haven't had a problem with gripping the controller. The technique that I use to hold the PS3 controller is just like one other guy's. I keep my index fingers over the shoulder buttons (L1,L2, R1,R2).

But if you have all of your fingers wrapping around under the controller it could be causing the controller to slip out of your hand.

i have no problem gripping the controller. do what i do, keep your index fingers between the R1 and R2/L1 and L2 buttons so it wont move out of your hand. im used to holding that way since ps1

maybe your hands are sweaty from all the exciting things the ps3 has to offer. it could be that the ps3 controller is to small for you in which case you can buy other handset brands that are bigger.

If your hands get wet, just dry them off by rubbing them on your pants.
