Is it against the law to park on the other side of the street in front of someone's driveway? I have a neighbor who is a real $#@! who complains about this.

To explain it better, if you're coming down the street, his house and driveway are on the left and my house is on the right. I park on the right side of the street, which lines up with his driveway on the left side.

Oh and yes he can get out of his driveway. He claims it makes it harder but it looks like there shouldn't be much trouble

In some areas, it is illegal to park within 15' of a driveway, or park facing the flow of traffic, even on a side street.

I know I live in the Houston area and when it was much hotter, I saw a small dog in a completely closed-up car. I sat there for ten minutes thinking that maybe the owner would come out, but then I called the Houston SPCA about it. They said it wasn't an emergency. Animal control wouldn't have done anything because by the time they got there you were out of the store. The only way they'd care was if the dog got out of the truck. It sounds like the lady has been watching too many Animal Cops shows and was an overzealous pet lover, like many of the fine people right here on this website. :o) I don't think it was a big deal that you did that, but she had no way of knowing if you were coming back. After you did, she should have left you alone.

It might have been said before, but here we go: I'm a police officer so I can let you know about Calif. law at least. You can NEVER block a driveway. You can get towed for this. You can park along the curb but you have to remain close to the curb (less than 18") or you can get a ticket. If you are so far from the curb you block the road you can get towed (it has to remain accessable to emergency vehicles. You have to park on the right side of the street. Meaning you can't drive on the wrong side of the road to park your car along the curb with your car facing the wrong way. The RIGHT half of your car has to be closest to the curb (unless your city has angled parking). If the left side of your car is close to the curb and your facing the wrong way you can get a ticket. Not too mention in order to get to this position you have to drive the wrong way on the wrong side of the street twice, the first to get into the parking spot, the second to leave.

It depends on whether he lives in a firehouse or a regular house. Parking opposite a firehouse is illegal because the fire engines need to exit in a hurry and turn wide. Parking on the correct side of a street when there is a driveway on the other side is usually legal, if it is not a firehouse driveway and there is no other special reason (no parking signs, bus stops, etc.) not to park there.

As long as the spot you are parking in is a legal parking space, without yellow curb or no parking limits, you are completely legal. Your cross-street neighbor may be irritated, but is not empowered to do much about it. Perhaps the two of you could work something out, such as you parking slightly back or in front of the spot in front of your house. This would not control anyone else parking there however.

OK it's like this. You park on the SAME side your drive on. IF you are doing that, then you're fine. IF you are parking on the opposite side of the street, then you are illegally parked. HOWEVER: is anyone allowed to park on the street? (I know here you can't) - you must have a "parking area". You should ask your local law enforcement if you are really that concerned to be totally positive.

Actually, it is against the law if you're blocking him.
If he owns a big car, like an H2, it can be hard for him to get out of the driveway without hitting your car. There's only so much space with a big car.

Move your car. It's your fault if it gets hit.

I think it is better to be considerate of others when parking. It is not against the law, per se, but there's not need to be a total douche if you can use your own driveway.

If you're not blocking his drive it is legal. Every neighborhood has someone like him. If it wasn't for this he would find something else to gripe about. That's why we moved to the country.
