What's the difference between aims and objectives????

Aims are what you want to achieve, Objectives are what you will do to achieve them.

So, an Aim would be the overall thing you want to eventually achieve.
For example, if you are a teacher you might say, 'I aim for my whole class to be able to count to 100 by Christmas'.

The Objectives would be the specific tasks you will do to achieve the Aims.
For example, the teacher might say, 'I will spend 6 hours a week teaching my class to count to 100'.

Educationally aims are much broader than objectives. Objectives are very specific. When I plan units of work (I'm an art teacher) the aims cover what will be learnt in the whole unit generally (e.g improve drawing skills), and objectives are specific to individual lessons (e.g. will draw still life object focussing on tone). Totally does my head in. Hope that helps.

An example of the use of "Aims" and "Objectives" .

The Farm Lands Ownership Act aims to control the extent of foreign ownership of Manitoba farm land.

The objectives of the Act though have remained the same to simplify and give assistance in providing information about any parcel of land you may be interested in.

Aims are more general; objectives are phrased more specifically. When itaugh I used to have to do schemes of work and lesson plans. The aims were along the lines of
'To introduce neo - Freudian concepts to the group'.
Objectives were more like
By the end of the lesson students will
Know.....
Be able to.....
Understand......

Aims are where you are aiming for future. Objectives are what you must achieve and are your target. If you dont achieve your objectives you wont be around to achieve/see your aims.
