We're not. Pollution control is a multi billion dollar business in the USA alone. This includes recycling, pollution control, and reduction of green house gases.

The people are demanding these products and the Free Markets are providing them.

No other country is reducing pollution like the USA is because they are trapped in a socialist form of gvmt.

Well as Rainbow Warrior comments it's the socialiast system at thre heart of consumerism.
As to the driving part, I live 40 miles from London, it would take me to do that journey around 3 to 31/2 hours using public transport. The UK maybe small but it has an appauling transport (trains and buses) we have the most expensive rail system in Europe,, often crammed into trains with you nose stuck in someelses arm pit, which we have the pleasure of paying for. My nearest train station is 3 miles away along, dangerous (especially in winter) unlit roads with a national speed limit of 60MPH.
There is a bus service that runs every two hours...so if I missed the bus for work I have to then walk the journey to the train station, with many heavy tools as I'm self employed.
I'm just one of many in the same situation.
The only way to stop the rot is to do away with money, become self sufficient.....nowadays this is not practical and not possible.
What would make the prospects more posotive for the future is massive education projects in Africa, China, India and the United States.
As a small nation, the U.K., no matter if we try to make an example to the world of how things can be changed, by increasing our government incresing taxes to fund government quango's to help the environment (line to pockets of "friends" of MP's).
The human species is nothing special, take a look at the Eygptians, Mayan's and Incan's further back Neanderthal man they all died out..why every dog has it's day. And we the intelligent, being are having ours, and the time to pay is coming and no amount of hot air, from any nations MP's will stop it, for they are mere mortals to.
So do your bit, don't live under the dictative guise of "green issues" go plant some trees, cut back on using your car, go clean that stream, that is full of rubbish" get a job locally where you don't have to commute even if it means a lower wage.
What we need is free public transport world wide!! that will reduce the cars, these governments earn enough money in interest, on our taxes worldwide to fund free transport and that could be topped up, from the banks annual massive profits.
Robin Hood style, rob the rich to pay the poor!!

I care. We cook all our food rather than packaged stuff, we buy oraganic and don't buy fruit and veg out of season cos of the food miles. We recycle everything possible, walk all local trips and have 5 compost bins. Our neighbours across the road have 2 kids, every week they put out a double sized brown bin and a normal size one (non recyclable rubbish). Our brown bin is a normal one and goes out every 2 weeks. My husband sees the rubbish the neighbours put out and argues that as we have no kids why should we be doing all the work. We've got nothing to lose. Valid point. Is it just the difference between can be bothered and not?

maybe someone does
i do
i don't litter anaywhere outside the house
and i don't smoke.

it's a great question.
i mean,
some people just don't have common sense... i mean, common sense is not so common.

i have classmates with increadible trashes
how could they call it junk?
i mean,
an empty notebook
got a few page folded...
going to the bin?!
no way
i took it and used it.

my classmates also threw bags...
man, are they even eco-friendly or something?

like in the country i live,
many people loves polluting
sure...there are laws
but they are only on sign boards and words!
even the violators catchers aren't even like honest!
if someone litters, punishment!!!
but some of those violator catchers have other things in mind.

a day will come,
earth will be so polluted
we;d kill our selves

sadly
inly few notices earth's misery
T.T

It's our economic system... capitalism has gotten out of control. Corporations have but one goal, make a profit. There is no consideration in any corporate charter for the care of it's people, the community or the planet... just make money.

Externalize any and all expense on society and the planet, and privatize the profit for the elite few.

Below is a great article from Common Dreams (.org)

*You lost me when you started with "stop smoking and your grand children."
How about trying, "Stop screwing with nature?" and letting it take it's own course of action to clean up here own natural messes? Nature does one hell of a job, without making more problems.
Man just hasn't learned that he doesn't always know best.
I got a real good idea. How about getting rid of the EPA - PETA - GREEN PEACE - and all the rest of the alphabet wacko"s,and replace them with sane problem solving intellects?
