Shawn Nelson, a former National Guardsman, was a deeply troubled man who had suffered unemployment, divorce, alcoholism, and drug abuse. On May 17th, 1995, Nelson finally snapped, went to a local armory and stole a Vietnam-era M-60 tank. He then proceeded to go on a six-mile wave of destruction, mowing down parked vehicles, fire hydrants, and utility poles. Fortunately, no people were injured, and the tank itself had no live rounds. He soon found himself in the company of police cars, and he led them onto a freeway, where he got the tank stuck on a concrete highway divider. The cops surrounded the tank, opened the hatch with bolt-cutters, and opened fire on Nelson. He was only 35.

somebody did scouse borrow a tank some years in the past. someplace in California or some thing. The law enforcement officers chased him on the interstate. the two the tank have been given caught attempting to pass over the cement median divider or the law enforcement officers only caught up because of the fact one cop have been given on correct of the tank, opened it and killed the driving force. you may probable see it on youtube. maximum tanks are no longer left loaded the place they could be stolen. interior the no longer likely scenerio which you defined the police could probable evacuate the whole section and wait until eventually the tank ran out of gas. Or they could drop a bomb on the tank. They dropped a bomb on a house in Philedelphia back interior the 70s or 80s. you may seem that up too.

He stalled the tank on a highway K-Barrier (concrete), the CHP shot him and he died...

I remember that... May 17th, 1995, I was with a helicopter squadron on NAS North Island, and we actually got a call from San Diego PD / Sheriff's Departments asking if we had anything that would stop a tank.

The criminal/deranged-nut, Nelson, was headed toward downtown, and the cops where FRANTIC... a 40+ ton tank even without weapons would have reeked havok... and the cops didn't KNOW it was unarmed.

We'd JUST qualified to launch the Hellfire missile... and OH GOSH, we wanted to SO BAD !!

Aaaaaaaah Memories

A 40 ton tank even without weapons is enough to kill people only by the Grace of God nobody was killed in the cars he demolished by deliberately driving over them, the C.H.P. were right to take the lunatic out, how were they to know he had no weapon in the tank with him??

As for Kisser; yours is a real moronic comment.

He was shot and killed by a San Diego policeman, not a Highway patrolman. after he attempted to breach the center divider of the 163 freeway and crash into oncoming traffic. his tank got stuck and while he attempted to get it going again, a police officer mounted the tank and opened the top hatch and shot the suspect dead.
