I just got married and iv'e taken on a new last name i'm wandering is it possible to obtain a new credit file under my new last name?

No, your credit history is linked to your social security number. Investigate ways to repair your credit, close dormant or unused credit cards, etc., reduce your debt. Have your new husband do the same

That's correct - your credit is linked to your social security number.

Now that you're married, be sure to get a new ss card with your new last name on it. You need to keep that updated with the social security administration. Your future social security benefits and medicare are based on your lifetime contributions. Look up the nearest location in your phone book, call and ask then what you need to provide to make the change.

Actually the name change thing WONT work....sorry. BUT I can tell you something that does call me at 352 219 9999. I dont want to post the answer here for fear that my employer or someone doing a check on me will find the posting. But a mistake by the bank turned me on to this when I was applying over the telephone for a credit card with Bank of America
