If I leave the hair dye on my hair for for example 15mins instead of 30mins what would happen?

My hair is dark brown-black and I dyed it lighter brown bout 3 months ago, but I didn't like it so I dyed it down again to a dark brown.
However the dark brown came out being practically black and after a week it began to fade, and now it has faded to the light brown it was previously.
So i'm wondering if what would happen if i left the dye on for shorter time?
Would it not be so dark?
Or would it turn my hair green?

Much appreciated!

It wasn't temporary dye last time I dyed my hair.
And there are no dyes I can find which would dye my hair darker and do not turn my hair practically black.

It is not a good idea to cut short the length of time. The way color works is,,the first half of the processing time is to lift color out and the last half of the time is for depositing the color. You cut it in half,,and you will not get the desired result. If your ends "grabbed color" last time,,,it would be good to soak the ends in a conditioner before you apply the color,,it will help to make them not grab color and go dark. Or you could just wait till the last 10 minutes of processing,,and then pull the color thru the ends. That way they only take up a bit of the color and not go dark.

For a lighter shade,,buy a level of color lighter,,leave it on the whole time,,,pulling thru the ends in the last 10 minutes of processing.

if you don't leave the dye on for the amount of time you are supposed to, it may just wash out when you rinse it out of your hair. If you believe the dye you have is too dark, then switch to a lighter dye.

It sounds like you were using a temporary dye last time.

Dyeing your hair again so soon after dyeing it a certain color may have had some effect on what happened, so I advise against it. Check the color on the box and read the instructions carefully because sometimes you have to follow the time set strictly--if it says twenty minutes then you'll have to stick to twenty minutes and not more or less.

If dye jobs just give you a headache (like they do with me ^^,), save yourself the agony and damage to your hair and find a highly-recommended hair colorist you trust. (^^,)

if you leave it for as long as it says on the instruction sheet then the colour would not come out right
