Okay- will somebody explain to me how these unrealistic generalizations of christians came to be? Do you think we're all gay-bashers, ignorant to the rest of the world? My next-door neighbors were lesbian, and I wasn't throwing trash at their front door.
Seriously, why do the big names in atheism feel like they have to devote their lives to telling us how stupid we are? Do they realize most people aren't really going to be convinced to abandon their faith for some guy hurling insults in their direction?
I personally think that the Big Bang theory is perfectly sensible, and in my own right, that God made it to happen. He formed people out of the earth- and just as easily from organisms in the earth. We aren't all crazy fire-and-brimstone evangelists. Who here actually believes we are?

Many of you are gay bashers and ignorant to the rest of the world.

It is a very good thing that there are Christians like yourself that are reasoned and can see that there is no reason to bash people because of their race or orientation.

I think that many of the 'big names' in atheism devote their lives highlighting the stupidity of their actions and beliefs because they are concerned about the results of faith based belief systems.

I agree that calling people names, isn't an convincing tool for change, but pointing out the results of certain belief systems should make us all think about them.

You're right, not all Christians are rabid fundies. Unfortunately, they are the ones who get most of the media attention and who make the biggest stink here on YA. Your comment that Christians won't abandon their faith because someone is hurling insults at them also applies to Christians telling us non-Christians that we are going to hell for not believing in YOUR religion.... not a very effective proselytizing method.

Unfortunately people who claim Christianity, but abandon some of the truths of the Bible leave large areas of vulnerability in the true Christian witness.
Unbelievers, like wild animals, attack the weakest spot in the herd.
A Christian cannot call God a liar by throwing out a truth of the Word and not make us all a target.

Religion tries to create rules that mimic what people experience when they are truly a Christ follower. People just following the rules get really twisted, because it's not possible to actually follow all those rules. Then non-Christians notice how hypocritical these people are, and then the rest of us true Christ followers are lumped in with these fakes. It's a bad deal for us, but we were warned that being a Christian would bring persecution.

Because of the way Christians treat each other here. Most of them think it's their way or the highway to hell. Are they really going to treat non-Christians better?

My Jewish friends have a saying that if you put 3 Jews in the same room and talk about scripture, you'll get 5 opinions - and it's okay. A whole lot of "Christians" could learn something from that.

People like to lump everyone in with the extremes (like you did with atheists). It makes it easier to tear them down, as most people understand that extremism in most all its forms is a bad thing.
I own a Hybrid, so many people have assumed I am a tree-hugger who grows my own food and thinks Al Gore is the Messiah. Like I said, people like labeling you to the extreme so it's easier to laugh at you.

Well we seem to agree about the big bang thing, and the who you chose to have sex with is your own business thing.

I sometimes get that idea from a few bad fundies. They really misrepresent Christianity.
