I don't think it has a specific name, but would probably come under 'eating disorder' or 'social phobia'. It is generally a symptom of illnesses like anorexia and bulemia.

You have my sympathy - I was like that up until the age of about 15 or so. I got lucky in that it wore off when I joined the armed forces as you had no choice but to eat in front of other people (or starve I suppose). It is linked to the same issue of not being able to have a widdle in a public convenience when someone is doing the same at the side of you in a urinal (another problem I had until I went into the forces). The bottom line is that nobody actually notices you eat and frankly they couldn't care less. It is your phobia but obviously a real problem to you if nobody else. If you cannot conquer it then seek help via conselling - whatever yo do please do not go through the rest of your life with this - there are much more important things to get fired up about. Believe me - no one gives a jot about your chewing on some food - the whole world does it!!!!

I don't know if there is a technical term but As_ Hol_ seems to fit.

My niece had that problem, and we discovered she was anorexic (or bulimic).
