Guru is not a pre-condition to start meditation...
For certain Hathha yoga, pranayama and beeja mantra we need initiation from a guru... but certainly we can simply worship god or do simple meditations without one.
I dont have any guru.... and i am making progress... if and when guru is required god will send one.... or He himself will guide u through dreams and visions.
The ultimate guru is Krishna himself... now he speaks to u through a human guru or books or vision, does not matter.
When we become eligible students, gurus appear all around...in different forms.

Huh? You can't meditate without a Guru? Is it dangerous? What? Like lightning will strike?
