I have been to the doctor, but nothing doing there.

For as long as I can remember, I have had this most terrible ache in just one thigh. The only relief is when something heavy is laid across it!

I do experience it in the day, but it comes on full force at night and keeps me awake.

If there is a solution - great! But I am aware of the dangers of trying to"be doctor" can be dangerous, but I would be interested to know if there are others who suffers this too.

I do reiterate, that it is a deep ache, not a pain.

Please, only serious answers, if there are any.

I did not mention circulation because, I did not want to put word in mouth, but I have actually been diognised with this problem anyway and am taking Ginko Biloba for it, so I think that it is to do with circulation problems.

The problem is only in my thigh, so I do not think it is sciatica, but thanks for your kind responses, so far!

I've had that a couple of times before, though i think i just get it when i've been very tired. Maybe you have poor circulation in that leg? That would explain the relief when a heavy object is placed across it...
I wouldn't like to offer too much advice, but if it really is a problem, go to other doctors to get several opinions!

Sometimes a problem in the back, can cause leg pain. Have you injured you back at any time or had an accident where you got whiplash? Sometimes if the vertebrae are slightly out of line it can cause problems elsewhere, eg headaches and leg pain. It may be worth seeing a chiropractor or osteopath which may help the problem. If not, you should seek a second opinion and ask about x-rays. You may have slipped a disc or have sciatica. Hope that's helpful. Good luck.
Sorry just read additions to your question. I have had both sciatica and slipped disc, in more recent years. Its been 6 years and I still suffer from deep pain in the lower leg and thigh (and chronic cramps) when standing or walking for too long.

Does the ache ever move? Perhaps to your foot, lower leg, or back? If so you could have sciatica, caused by a trapped nerve in near your spine. This sometimes cures itself, but sometimes it requires surgery. Keeping active can keep the pain at bay, and a massage might do you some good.

Sounds a bit like sciatica, have you asked about physiotherapy at your local GP surgery?
