Ive seen this once before. A friend of mine plays a lot, and his guitar builds up quite a bit of sweat and dead skin from the palm of his hand. I would wash the neck with some warm water and sugar soap, then apply some fret-board polish (he used one containing lemon oil) and that should get rid of it.
Good luck.

This is a new one for me, I've been playing for over thirty five years and I've never heard of this problem.....maybe it was a new kind of finish, I wish that you would have told us the model of Guitar your talking about....is it an inexpensive one ??? Why don't you try and put some kind of chemical that removes odors, like baking soda.....smear it on thickly overnight and see what that does. Have you asked an expert in a guitar store if this particular model was know for this....if so then you could bet that it was in the finish....please let us know if you find out what this is, I'm really curious !!!!!!!!!!

Never seen this prob either- but just as a guess- do you ever clean the thing? I mean, if you play it with dirty hands and never clean your hands or the guitar, that might make it stink!
