I ask because i noticed plasma seem to have glass(or plastic?), and i also noticed that some laptops do now which is obviously a LOT easier to clean than your standard LCD screen. And if they don't what is the best way to protect or clean a LCD screen...my laptop looks a nightmare.

What you are touching is glass. It's very thin, but very strong. There are a variety of companies that make this glass but the largest provider of glass screens for LCD TV's is Corning, which uses a fusion downdraw forming process. Don't listen to people telling you these screens are plastic or fragile, a HUGE amount of engineering went into these displays and it shows. Try making a screen with a diagnal size of 65" but a thickness of 0.5 millimeters and perfectly flat!

The reason you see a blur when you press the screen is the result of compression on the liquid crystal interface between the glass and the LED's.

To clean these glasses uses a VERY soft cloth (something like paper towels can scratch the surface) and windex. If you really want to baby the screen get the special display cleaner, which is basically de-ionized water mixed with some light acid. Some of the cheaper made glasses involve polishing, which makes the glass harder to clean, which is why some laptops are hard to clean.

Here is a link to Corning's LCD page that might help put some of the silly rumors to rest:

I don't think so. I just bought a new TV. While shopping for weeks, I noticed that every single LCD screen was the soft type, and if you run your finger down the screen lightly you will see a "blur". If you must have a glass screen, go with plasma. That's what I did.

To clean LCD, a slightly damp cloth, then follow up with a soft dry cloth. Try to clean your laptop more often.

Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. Plastic because it can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.

Plasma have a glass screen like all other TVs except LCDs.
