20 lbs by Jan 1 is a bit unreasonable. If you really want to lose the weight, set yourself the goal. If you don't exercise, start. Even walking helps. Use the stairs instead of elevators. Park further away from malls, etc. Try to walk an hour/day.
Eat healthy. Lots of fruits & veggies. Cut out desserts, fried foods, especially deep-fried like french fries. If you drink soda, stick to diet. Water is best to drink.
P.S. At 5'3" you are not overweight. 20 lbs off would probably be unhealthy.

your fine as u are friend, if u be a man u could gain more if u be a woman depending on your frame 116 llbs isnt that much . some women be petite in shape with small bones so they weigh in at 105 lbs like asian women ..
for the most part if u lose that much weight u wont be heslthy and you wont have energy. . only lose the type of weight u can keep off without dieting.
WHEN A WOMAN OR MAN go on a diet they almost always gain more weight back then before a diet because a diet is something that limits your calorie intake but not food content. , this is more dangerous for u cant gain weight lose weight like u put on or take off a pair of socks.
it affects your body negatively. change your habits of eating a lifestyle change. eat in proportion and never eat heavy at night before u are ready to sleep. , i give u a hint eat like a king in the morning eat like a queeen in the afternoon and eat likre a papuer at night.
why> because in the morning and afternoon you have time to burn the food u eat but at night your body goes into shut down ,, that is if u work days ,, if u work afternoons or night shift then do the same thing before you go to work is breakfast lunch and when u come home its night for u. maybe it has helped ,, bro mj

*sigh* You're not making life very easy for yourself, are you?

First of all, your weight is good for your height. It's healthy. I understand some girls are dying to be underweight... but really, 86 pounds for a 5"3' is NOT cool. You'll end up as skin and bones.

Secondly, if you somehow won't give up the insane idea of losing 20 lbs even though you're at a very good weight (on the lower end of healthy), you won't be able to lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks. Oh come on... I'd say 6 pounds.

If you still want to lose as much weight as you can, just cut out all the unhealthy food (junk, chocolate, soda), exercise for at least an hour a day, and drink plenty of water. Oh, remember to sleep enough too.

Firstly, you don't need to. Secondly, thats only around 3 weeks and I'd say quite an unhealthy amount to lose in 3 weeks. If you really want to lose weight, aim for 2lbs a week by increasing your exercise each day and cutting down slightly on food ecspecially things like soda.

Its the worst time of year possible to try and do this - think of all the yummy holiday food you will miss out on!

There really isn't a healthy way to do this. My advice to you is drink as much water as you can, eat healthy, and exercise at least 3 times a week. But you most likely won't lose 20 lbs by next year.

Even a small weight loss of 10 to 15 pounds can improve your health. Try not to lower calorie intake below your resting metabolism when dieting, this will limit the metabolic slowdown associated with strict dieting. Check out http://use-weightloss.blogspot.com/ for all info regarding weight loss.

I think you are out of your mind. It is too much too lose in too short a time and you are near your ideal rate right now. Instead of trying to lose it, do yourself some cardiac goodness and get out and excercise to shift some of it around.
