The point of HDTV is so you can watch HD programming. My HD programming is beamed to my satellite receiver because I pay a nominal monthly subscription for the service.
Edit: The point of paying for service = the picture quality is outstanding...crystal clear, nearly looks 3 dimensional.

BBC already is transmitting in HD, all new TVs are HD ready although they may only be HD compatible make sure they have hdmi socket for true HD.
Prices always depend on the size and brand, but all movies are now being made in HD which is the future, so no don't bother if your only an infrequent watcher of TV of DVDs.
Free-view should be coming within the next year sometime so I told. So if it ain't broken...........

No point you buying one if your old tv is ok but if you are going to buy a new one anyway might as well go for hd then you are future proofing yourself for when freeview goes hd

Freeview are currently fighting for the remaining HD channels. If they win the battle it will open HD up to non subscription viewers. No decision has yet been taken

Its all about having the latest gadget and being one up on your neighbour. I'm damned if I'm going to pay extra to watch TV on my perfectly okay freeview box! Once the hype has settled down, it might well be incorporated into the TV as standard, just as freeview is now.

No point at all...just companies wanting to sell you something you do not need.
I have a small 34cm television which I have been using for years . I have no intention of changing for something that cost 10 times as much and is not all that great anyway.

I tend to agree....when it is more widespread the price of HD ready TV's will come down.....most new tv's are HD ready whether you use it or not.
