The group that I refer to is everybody that answers and asks questions in this category. Athiests, Agnostics, Muslims, Christians, etc. I have read through about ten questions and all answers included since signing on today and 95% of it is just people pretty much just name calling only using bigger words instead of four letter ones. Why can't anybody here debate like adults?

As far as sampling a large enough number of Q&A, I visit here quite often but it just gradually gets worse and worse each time

doesn't seem like they do.
more so, they refuse or will refuse to do that.
i wouldn't call it debates it's more of arguments....never ending ones!
i just hope they regain focus.....only then will they realize the outcome is all that matters afterall!

I am sure that many of the examples you have read ARE by children (some - yes- are childish adults). This is not an adult only site. You could take the time to check the profile of some of the askers, many clues to their age. However, bear in mind, the children (not including the intelligent mature responses from some minors) will still be posting their answers to get their points. You can weed them out as well, by giving thumbs down.
There are many good honest debates on here. Just takes time to find them.

Here is my advice: Be part of the solution instead of the problem.
I only ask questions if there is something I want to know. It may be a fact or it may be trying to get a sense of people's attitudes.
I only answer questions if I feel like I can contribute constructively to the issues implied by the question. (Unless the questions was asked in silly good fun, like anything about the FSM.)
I like the Y/A format because it limits the scope of the debate. You have a question, and you get the answers. If the questioner takes his/her question seriously, she can respond to answers in additional details. Answerers can edit/add to his answer. But it all comes to an end in 2-3 days. Indeed the life of a question seems to be about 30 minutes (but I wish this were not the case).
The name calling is unfortunate, and seems to come from all sides. Christians/believers bash atheists/unbelievers and vice versa.
The way to approach this problem is to be the adult.

Well Patrick the answer is simple, the other people are wrong. Since I am right, the others have to be wrong. Pat, you can never debate faith. The entire concept of faith demands that anyone that believes something different than you they must be wrong. It is this premise that has cost the lives of millions of people in a long proud history of religious hatred between these denominations. I don't mean to leave out the agnostics, or atheists either, their non-belief in god requires them to believe something entirely different, usually science. Since science unfortunately can not answer every question, including why most people need faith to have morality, they also have faith just defined differently. Bottomline, for the faith of one to be right, all others must be wrong in order validate the particular belief system.

Probably because the age range of most people here are about 13 - 25. People are always most heroic because they hide behind a computer screen. I have often found that people will often resort to profanity or abuse because they really don't have an intelligent answer.

Sturgeon's Law. Many years ago, science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon was asked, "Why is 90% of all science fiction such BS?" "Because," answered Mr. Sturgeon, "90% of everything is BS."
This has become known as Sturgeon's Law.
Then in the late 1970s, I saw Theodore Sturgeon at a science fiction convention in San Francisco. I asked him if 95% wasn't a more realistic estimate, and he agreed that it was.
Lately I've been using 99%.
So find the one percenters, and ignore the BS.

When religious and brainwashed adults with 3-year old child mentality insults anybody, you can't blame the rest.
Stay awhile, and you shall be entertained.

I agree with you on this. Just in about any category people are answering the question thinking they know what they are talking about and they are name calling for no damn reason, people have their own opinions about it, so what if your answer is different from the person above you.

Because half of them are probably bored thirteen-year-olds. Honeslty, I just ignore the incoherent ramblings and pay attention to the questions and answers with actual intelligent responses.
