I don't think he's overhyped. He's an excellent fighter. IMO, his major disadvantage was the difference in reach. The fighters were basically the same size, height, etc. EXCEPT that Mayweather had a 3 or 4 inch reach advantage on Hatton. Mayweather's long reach (or Hatton's short one) was a major factor, in addition to the fact the the referee was obviously favoring Mayweather. Ref was constantly warning Ricky about holding, never let him get in close to get those body punches in. If Hatton's arms were about 3 inches longer, he would have stomped Mayweather, IMO.

Not really going to answer the question, just wanted to debate with ksdfly1...
Tell me, given that Ricky got close to Mayweather throughout the whole fight and Mayweather still got the better of him, even on the inside, do you think a smaller ring would have made any difference whatsoever?
Also, given Hatton landed barely anything of worth, do you honestly believe if they wore Reyes gloves that Mayweather would have been the one on the canvas?
A fighter is going to play to his strengths. Both Mayweather and Calzaghe are known to have brittle hands, buit they are the champions and are entitled to make the demands.
A wise man once said "you shouldn't comment on something you know nothing about". You ought to listen to that man, son.

Totally out classed my ar£@, Ricky can hold his head high he hurt him in the very first round, got stuck in on the big stage with the best pound for pound.
Well done Ricky Hatton its just a shame you didn't give him the body bombs.
Could have been a different story if floyd hadn't paid the ref boo the corrupt usa.

He did us British proud and can come back with his head held high. He sure made the cocky American work harder than ever before for his win didn't he? He was classed as the underdog but just look at what happened - it took 10 rounds!
He has a huge fan base with included most of his opponents home people!!.
I'm proud to call myself British.

Oh I see. I wondered how long it would be before the negative idiots came out of the woodwork if he lost. People like you are the reason British sporting stars never reach the very top. Negative and always criticising. You'd be saying something else if he had won.

mate i have to say, you have not watch this little chap fight..ever, go to u tube and have a look at some of the fights this TOP boxer has been involved in...
2 things...
firstly, massive advantage to mayweather, he gets to choose the ring, a ring and glove choice that suits him...for example Joe Calzaghi does the same
secondly..you shouldnt comment on something you know nothing about

I thought that was a neat ploy - getting one of Mayweather's bodyguards to referee the fight. He didn't let Hatton get near him. A fight it was definitely not. Pathetic.
