What does attractive mean in Korea anyway? My friend who's going to be there for a few years is forever fussing over it I'm hoping your answers might ease her worries, but it's okay just be honest.

For a westerner attractive usually equates with well kept. Many facial features that I do not find attractive on a white or black girl my Korean friends love. Same goes for my perspective on Korean women. I find very attractive the women my Korean friends hate.
Much of that goes to body size. Many Korean women these days have a fetish about body weight. I know some girls that are a 0 and think they are too big so they are trying to become a 00.
One of my good friends always bugs me about my weight (I am about 6'2" 250lbs) and says I need to diet. But, since she always says it while smoking I tend to ignore her.
Anyway... Soldiers also have a standard they refer to as Korea Cute. It is the theory that there are so few western women to choose from that a 5 in the states is a 9 in Korea. Girls that trade on that fact are referred to as Queen for a Year.
I doubt I helped your friend's worries.

Unfortunately for a Korean woman, they are constantly bombarded by "beauty-related" items on TV, newspapers, etc.

Ladies, from a young age, learn that beauty comes in a bottle, therefore, if one does not buy the beauty product, they cannot be beautiful.

And to, some of that stuff in a bottle can get quite expensive; Korean women are taught to believe that "the more expensive, the more beauty (quality)" the bottle offers them.

Some of the ladies here put on foundation, with what seems like a cement trowel. The more heavily applied, the more beautiful you are.

Also, if you are not "model skinny," you are thus too fat.

your age: that doesn't work to attract people your nationality: for some chicks maybe you play sports, who doesn't? you speak languages... is this a resume? milk commercial... so? volunteer work? in a church? are you humble or showing off now? violin? more talents, yay... maybe a chick will want to hire you SIX PACK, this can get the ladies' attention alright! good job! THAT's the best description you can do??!! and you even mention that no girl notices you?? man not being noticed is not a turn on. There are freaks who get hot chicks and there are poor people who can cope too. You need to realize that what chicks dig is personality and looks. Not achievements. I never dated a girl because she won a contest or plays the violin. That should only make her happy about herself and improve her confidence. Which seems to me that you don't have. You need to notice what girls like, so sit with a girl (a friend) and make sure she's hot. Someone you'd date. And TALK to her about what girls like. And talk to her about yourself, see what she thinks. good luck.

For foreign girls it's not important to be attractive, but it helps to be at least decent looking to get good jobs. Generally western women are not in a great situation for dating here. The western guys like Korean girls and western girls don't like Korean guys.

For a Korean girl in Korea, appearance is everything.
