I'm short sighted. I have to wear glasses all the time. I told my friends this....they all yelled 'NERD!!'.
Does this embarrassing and stupid ritual happen to everybody who gets glasses?

Ugh. People, your advice please.

I would hope that glasses would not Make a difference. I wear glasses and I have never dealt with being called nerd or anything like that. Get thinned framed glasses as thick framed glasses don't seem to look good. I think women with glasses are sexy !!

Pretty much, even these days.
It says much more about them than about you.

Why do monkeys in the zoo throw feces? Because it gets a reaction.
The level of thinking in the two behaviours is quite similar.
Reacting to the taunts (beyond a dismissive "Grow up") will only encourage them.

Why do you have to wear them all the time?
You might find it *useful* to wear them all the time, but I'm supicious when it's phrased as "have to", "must" or "need to"

Unless there's something rare and unusual, it's perfectly OK for you to put up with the blurry vision whenever that's your preference, and just put the glasses on "when it suits you".
There's a world of difference psychologically there, even if you then *choose* to wear them all, or nearly all ,of the time.
Check with your prescriber if you doubt me.

I'm sure it was just a playful ribbing. If not, you should re-evaluate who your friends really are. In actuality though, most people don't give much thought these days to whether someone wears glasses or not. It doesn't have the same stigma it did years ago.
