My friend is going to New Zealand for Christmas, and doing an over-night stop-over in Shang Hai. Does she need a visa for this? Or is it one of those places that you can pay for the visa when you arrive? She is travelling on a British Passport by the way. Thanks!

Need a visit visa for China before arrival L visa is visit and G visa is transit. Your friend must check which one with the Chinese Embassy because it will depend on the exact travel plan. Need to apply in plenty of time - check out the local waiting time.

The following gives the forms and cost but your friend will have to look up her nearest Embassy

A visa is required to visit Shanghai as required by the Chinese Immigration Office. Anyway, the visa is easily granted by presenting photos and passports to the embassy.

Although I disagreed with you most of the time because of your unusual behavior of asking silly questions regarding Filipinos, but this time I will agree on you on this. Yes for me it sounds silly and stupid to ask those following requirements from you from an Embassy that we know of who are run by competent and university degrees individual.1 to 5 requirements you have are not even close to the requirements ask by a legal Embassy of the Philippines in any given countries. Are you sure you went to an Embassy? And not a warehouse, docking area of a shipping lines or something? So if you feel you are being mislead by this Embassy why not phone the main DFA which stands for Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines to address your problem instead of writing it here. I know you went to school but this is not the proper venue for your problem at your Embassy. So if you really have that common sense you will seek your grievances to the right forum ok.
