I don't remember the exact recipe, and tried to find it for you and couldn't. But this is what I do, and my daughter loves it with a grilled cheese. She doesn't know the difference.

In a pot sautee up 1 chopped onion in 2 tbsp. of butter and 1 tbsp. of olive oil with a little salt and pepper. Then add 2 tbsp of flour. Cook for about 2 minutes. Then add 1 quart of V8 and slowly let it come to a boil stirring. Let it cool slightly and add 2 cups of whole milk.

I actually use a hand mixer to blend the onions as fine as possible. Also, taste before you add the milk, it should be slightly salty. Don't add the milk while it's boiling it will curdle. Also, since it makes quite a bit, you can freeze it. Just don't add the milk before you freeze.
