They're not cheap ones either. She saves about half of her pocket money and buys gold ones from a jeweller when she has saved enough. She has even bought herself a pair of small diamonds (€40/pair ones).

Yesterday I told her she had shown how determined she was to have some nice earrings, and saving like that showed she was being real responsible, so I would take her to get them pierced after her swim class.

At this point, she told me she didn't want them done yet. She wants to get them done when she a little bit older. She just wants to make sure she has some nice earrings when she decides the time is right. She then went on to explain that it would probably be at the start of the summer holidays next year or the year after, because then she has 8 weeks without school so she won't have to take them out early for sport.

If I had been spending half of my money on earrings for 6 months, I certainly would be in no mood to wait that long.

Perfectly normal. Good for her, she will get them pierced when she's ready. You might want to advise her not to spend all her money on jewelry, or she'll be out very quickly, lol

I had a similar problem when I got second holes pierced (at 18, no less). I don't think taking them out at night or for cleaning is the answer-- the holes have to heel. But I agree it sounds like a reaction to the metal. Have you tried surgical steel? Also, are they yellow gold or white gold? Some people have a reaction to the white but are OK with the yellow gold. If nothing else works, maybe try getting her some sparkly clip ons and see if that will appease her. Good luck-- those infections really hurt!

Let her know/ remind her that when she gets them done she needs to wait six weeks before she can wear those earring and they recommend you wear a post earring for at least the first few months before wearing a hoop or dangly.
After that if she still does not want to do it now that is fine. I think you have raised a resposible girl so far

Wow your daughter sounds really mature and responsible. Saving her own money up to buy things she wants and doesnt feel she is ready to have her ears pierced yet.
Im kind of the same with boots. I hardly wear boots because they hurt my feet after a whille, I hardly go out anywhere nice to wear them and I have 2 children to run round after. However, I see a pair of boots I like and I have to buy them, even if I know ill never wear them. my mum says i have a shoe/boot fettish. maybe your daughter justs likes the look of the earrings?

She's preparing herself for having pierced ears, buying them herself actually, and has made an adult decision that while she wants them, she doesn't think she's old enough to properly take care of them and you ...actually think something is wrong with her? Maybe she's afraid of getting them pierced or she just doesn't feel ready, but wants to have the earrings, I am seriously failing to see the problem with this? I think it would be smart to get it done during a time where she doesn't have to worry about sports and all that. Seems like a smart kid to me.

I think your daughter has a great point.

With swimming and sports your really run a big risk of bumping them, pulling them, getting them hit in anyway, or you run the risk of infection.

God your daughters really super responsible! Definatly has a good head on her shoulders. She knows the risk and doesn't wanna have any problem.

Normal i have no idea. Good Idea definatly!

How old is she? This is a bit odd but I wouldn't say abnormal. Maybe she is a bit nervous and kind of talking herself into it. She'll be fine!
