Personally, I find it ridiculous that people put so much faith into an old collection of books that have been modified over and over
...and to top that off, not even those who believe in it can agree on it. Dont y'all have any other sources? That are more consistent?

Thanks bunches,

The truth of God is hidden in every ones heart. Why is it that on every continent on this planet that every society searches for God? The fact that you can only find inner peace through benevolence towards others, tends to lead me to think that maybe the whole " peace on earth, good will towards others" might not be such a bad thing after all. And if you can find a faith that helps you to live that way, so what if it comes from an "old set of books" Current copies for the old testament have been compared to the dead sea scrolls, and have been found to be accurately copied, so your argument that they are "modified" doesn't hold water. And nobody ever agrees on all things with each other.Personally, I find it interesting that you find people who wish to live a better way of life than smoking dope, drinking booze, and screwing each others wife behind each others back, a bad thing.Somebody with a bible must have hurt you very badly, and I'm sorry for that. Be that as it may be, there is still no reason for ridicule. My father taught me that if you want to be respected, stand on your own merits. Don't try to make yourself look good by putting someone else down. He never read the bible, but he quoted it often, and usually without knowing that he was. I only found that out after I read it for myself. To him it was just common sense that he was trying to teach me. The funny thing is, the older I got, the smarter he became. There was no bible in our house, so where did he get so wise? Maybe, it was written in his heart.

Yeah the bible is the main reference for Christians because of
1. It is historically accurate,
2. Its contents regarding medical issues, money transactions, and family arrangements in laws, principles are practical and in general beneficial
3. Prophecy, this is the main one,

But in a story about Joshua when he was sold to the Egyptians in the "old testament" There was no written Law at that time. However he was able to distinguish Gods laws, and/or principles. Every person has instilled in them a conscious of right and wrong to some degree. Like some animals they have a certain amount of instinct how else could they survive. Likewise Humans have a similar "wiring"
So really a person would make their points about God by their actions and principles they follow. Although the bible has been translated into several languages and some versions, it is still the basic point is being made.

You are correct so called Christians do not agree. A closer look at what Christians believe shows they believe as Pagans, and Babylon religions. This is contrary to what the bible teaches. No wonder they don't agree. Because they pick and choose what they want to believe out of the bible, they are left confused and as Jesus said thrown out like sheep left for the slaughter. Other sources that are consistant would be things like the tablets found in other relgions, regarding kings, and life in those times. the bible mentions many kings from other nations, and actually by comparing them you find it is accurate. Also by archology , ancient cities that were mentioned in the bible are still being discovered, the bible again, usually tells their location in reference to rivers or other cities.

The Bible is the only source we Christians need and doesn't have to have another source to concur with it, because first of all it is a collection of other books, not just a book with a lot of chapters written by the same author, but by many prophets and scholars that were inspired to write it by God. Furthermore, as to the statemet about not all Christians agreeing on it is basically human nature. Of course, anyone calling themself a Christian won't neccesarily have the same devotion as a more devout Christian, who takes his commitments seriously and realizes what he's agreeing to. And there will also be disputes as to whether this was meant in this chapter, or whether something else was meant. As with anything, people will always have thier own opinions and interpretations, even if an official verdict was passed down stating the meaning of it. So if I were you I'd try to get as much info about something before I went around making extreme claims or opinions of it, and didn't even know much about it.

I use the Bible as more of a "reference." I honestly don't get into much about it because then it gets as dicey as politics. However, I have enough experiences in my life to prove to me that God exists - car accidents I shouldn't have survived, people recovering from grave illnesses..and just small day to day "God-shots" as it were that show me that somebody/thing is looking out. But I never claim to "know" anything and I don't use words like "truth"..this is just what I believe. And to me it seems that there has to be some sense to everything we do down here. I mean really - what would be the point of being a decent person if there was no deeper meaning? Not to say that's the only reason I try to be a genuinely honest, caring individual. How could this just be it? Why would we even bother getting outta bed if we knew all we really had to look forward to was someday the lights turning out and that was it? Just my opinion...but there's gotta be something more.

In my religion we dont have an out dated book every thing is passed down to us by others and it is tried and tested before it us used or even quoted

Im a Witch and Witch craft has been around longer then Christianity and unlike Christians we dont have a lot of stupid laws that make life miserable for us

If there was no bible then Christianity would no longer exist because they cant agree with each other

The Bible is surprisingly consistent for an old collection of books that even Christians and historians can agree were written at different periods of time and modified over and over. I'll give you that it's interpreted in different ways, but when you look at most Christian interpretations, it's the things that they all have in common that carry the most important message. The fact whether you baptize your baby or not, etc. is almost irrelevant.

The Old Testament of the Bible means, to some, "God Breathed," and his word was written. The fact that it was written over and over is just... human failure. The New Testament? I'm a Christian and not so sure it's as accurate as the Old Testament because of human error, and lack of proof.

But, I ultimately believe in God because the universe can't come from nothing. But... many find it hard to believe God created the universe with brains and brawn. I believe he did it completely without "brawn" but rather intelligence. And remember, God is "begotten," and was not "made."

Now this may require you to think abstractly... but what if God is just intelligence... an intelligence that all of the brainpower in the world combined could not match. For example, everything a human does is related to some sort of chemical reaction or another. EXCEPT what he/she chooses to believe, think, reason over, etc. This is why I think God is the equivalent of incomprehensible intelligence... In other words... if he thinks it, it will happen.

This is very hard for many to understand, but if I knew how to explain it better, I would.

Some truths are self evident.
Our God wants your love and for you to love and care about others. Not a hard concept to understand.

As for that old collection of books, even if modified, they contain more Spiritual truths than any other book ever written.

What is consistent and all Christians agree with is that Jesus is the way, truth, and life. Through Him God has touched our hearts and changed our lives, just as He has done for millions over thousands of years. You don't need a book for that.

Hypothetical questions such as this serve no purpose. The self-authenticating, God-breathed Word contained in the Old and New Testaments is sufficient for faith and practice.

I have to agree on death from above here. Why do you care? I'm not religious and never have been, I honestly don't care if there is a god or not. It seems like there are more so called atheists out there that want to harass Christians than there are Christians that want to convert and oppress atheists.

But I've never been oppressed by Christians, I've never had their beliefs forced on me, I've never had to change my life for them. Despite what the "progressives" have been telling me...I am still not convinced I'm oppressed by Christians.
