I believe in the Bible, but I don't take everything it says literally. The bible was written in hebrew and greek originally, then translated to other languages; and any time you translate something from one language to another, you lost a little bit of what it was originally trying to say. So I'm sure some aspects of the Bible were lost during the translations. There's also the fact that hundreds or years ago the Romans and the Catholic priests changed and/or destroyed parts of the bible records (sad truth, but it IS the truth).

So, I believe in the bible and the morals behind the stories in the bible. I believe that the prophets in it were men of God and that there is a lot of wisdom in the bible. But I don't believe the bible we have today is the EXACT same Bible that was originally written. It may be close, but it can't be exactly the same because of the reasons I listed above.

The bible is a collection of books written over two millennia, so it would have been impossible for one person to have made it all up.
When you read the bible, it is good to compare one part of it with other parts, so you get a more balanced idea. This will enable you to see the consistent underlying messages in there.
Those many people who wrote the books of the bible over thousands of years, lived in very different cultures to ours and they wrote in ancient languages which are sometimes difficult to translate. These cultural and linguistic aspects make it difficult for us to understand some parts of the bible, whereas other parts are plain enough.
If you're thinking of making a start, the gospels are a good place to begin, then Genesis, then the Psalms.

At least an honest question.

Here's the Bibles answer:

(2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17) All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

The Bible is a Multitude of Stories, Explanations, predictions, examples, instructions, ignorance and wisdom. No one translation is going to get it all right, nor is anyone going to be able to perfect it! Henry Miller was right. Sometimes you have to throw the cross into the river, but others times all you can do is dab a little water on the lips of a dieing woman.
Some of the writings in the Bible our inspirational, some our historical, some our out to lunch. But life requires that you believe that somehow everything works out, the bible talks about that also.

I believe in God but I am not a Christan.

Muslims believe that there are part revelation was altered because things were added and taken away. One of the problems is that its a translation that is inaccurate from incomplete texts. There are many gospels that are not part of the bible like the apocryphal gospels who don't fit into the Christan beliefs. Don't you think its strange? surely they should accept it all. Muslims accept all of the narrations about their Prophet but look at the authenticity and compare with other narrations.

All I can prove to you is that a advanced scientific mind who knew every known and yet unknown field of science that evolved from microbiology wrote instructions for a man named Moses to follow. These instructions which contain someones working knowledge of the germ theory 3500 years before mankind invented the first primitive microscope. No human at that time or now had that kind of scientific knowledge to even come close to writing such instructions. So is this scripture written in truth? Absolutely. But not by humans.

If parts of the Bible were not true, why should I trust the rest? Thus, I believe everything written in the Bible is the Word of God. All of it is true or else I would be agnostic.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by (the) inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly (or thoroughly, completely ) furnished (instructed) unto all good works.

You must realize that we are talking about GOD: the Creator, the author, of all things which make up the origin of our existence.

Let me give you an example.
1. Legend says Jonah was swallowed by a "WHALE". Science says a whale's throat is so small, a grapefruit could become lodged in it.

The Bible says "GOD created a GREAT FISH" to swallow Jonah.

2. The reason Methuselah lived 969 years, Adam lived 930 years, was because GOD created Man to live FOREVER, and never to die.

Ge 2:15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into
the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Ge 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Ge 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

NOTE: Just as every tree, takes in the carbon dioxide which we exhale, and produce oxygen which we inhale; the Tree of the KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL, for all intent and purpose was disbursing all of the knowledge of good and evil that was necessary. Just because we know a tree produces oxygen, you don't see anyone pressing up against it trying to suck the contents out of the tree.

Therefore so long as "Adam" (the name for all mankind) resisted the temptation to eat the forbidden fruit, death did not occur. It was only when some individual succumbed to the tempter, that time started ticking.

Ge 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Ge 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed
them, and called their (notice; "their" name not "his") name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Ge 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, (not after his creation, but after his transgression) and begat a son in his own (Adam's) likeness, after his image; and called his
name Seth:

TRANSLATION: Creation occurred in the span or duration of ETERNITY. (the absence of the calculation of time.) TIME did not commence the instant Adam was created. Time commenced the instant Adam sinned. (Temptation is not sin; YIELDING is).

GOD said "in the day", that Adam would eat the fruit of the tree, death would occur. Had they NEVER eaten, they would have never died.

If you read the Bible in the context in which it is written, the explanation, the reasoning, and the understanding will be clear.

I believe your concern is sincere, but there are so many others to whom the Bible is just another book in the library.

being a cristian myself and doing a religious and theological degree. i truely believe that we can truely understand the bible in todays society. i also believe that a literal interpretation of the bible can be a very dangerous thing as it does controdict itself. at the end of the day. the Bible is not the only tool for Christians.
