Blood Vomiting could be possible due to Ulcers, Infection of the stomach lining, Serious food poisoning, etc Many disorders trigger nausea and vomiting. Finding blood in your vomit or actually vomiting blood can be alarming. Promptly identifying the cause is essential.
Causes are varied
You may find blood in your vomit for various reasons, including:
* Ingested blood. If you swallow blood — during a nosebleed, for example — subsequent vomiting may include some of this blood.
* Prolonged or vigorous vomiting. Vomiting may cause a tear in the small blood vessels of the throat or lower esophagus. This may cause blood to appear in your vomit.
* Peptic ulcers. Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach, upper small intestine or esophagus. In addition to feeling a burning pain anywhere from your navel to your breastbone, you may vomit blood that appears either red or dark (like coffee grounds).
* Internal inflammation. Inflamed tissue in the esophagus (esophagitis), stomach (gastritis) or upper part of the small intestine may cause blood to appear in your vomit.
* Cancer. Various types of cancer may cause you to vomit blood, especially cancers of the stomach and esophagus.
Vomiting red blood indicates that the bleeding began shortly before you vomited. If the blood is black or appears dark brown and has the texture of old coffee grounds, the blood has been in your stomach for a longer time.-

Hi there !
Many of the people who have answered this question seems to be totally confused.
"Coughing out" (haemoptysis)of blood is different from "vomiting out" (haematemesis) of blood.
Coughing out of blood, indicates , some abnormality of the lungs and breathing passages.
Vomiting out blood indicates some pathology in the digestive tract.
Respiratory tract pathology could be in the form of pneumonitis, pulmonary TB, laryngitis, bronchitis, lung abscess etc etc.
Haematemesis resulting out of digestive pathogy could be due to oesophageal varices, liver cirrhosis, stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer, abdominal TB etc etc.
Whatever it is, the patient needs to be evaluated in the most systematic way to understand the cause and for meticulous management.
best wishes !

if somebody vomits blood it could be from
throat, esophagus, stomach, duodenum
it could be due to trauma, rupture of esophagus, any infection of upper g I tract, ulcers which may be due to stress, gastritis, analgesics and other drugs, malignancies, bleeding disorders, including simple viral fever with low platelets, it could be due to varieceal bleeding due to abnormal portocaval anastomosis with portal hypertension
it could also be the aspirated blood from lung bleeding, ie haemoptysis,
the vommitted blood if reddish it is not from the stomach, but from upper part, but if it is coffee ground then it is from stomach one should think seriously
one should do routine CBC. with platelet count, bleeding and clotting time with prothrombin time, liver function tests, USG abdomen, upper GI endoscopy
