I don't think they believe that in communion...
Jesus said "My food is to do the will of My father",
so they do that to remind themselves to obey God.

Because Jesus asked us to.

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”

Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.

By the way, the Orthodox, Lutheran and many Anglican Churches also believe in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1322 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt1art3.htm

With love in Christ.

Its not just Catholics (although they go WAY out with it) its supposed to be some remembering thing because Jesus said to his disciples during the last supper to eat the bread he handed out and remember it as his body, and then the wine and remember it as his blood spilted for a new covenant. But I read that section in all four of the Gospels and I don't see where Jesus says, "And KEEP doing this in remembrance of me." I myself am a Christian but I personally do not believe in practising communion.

When Jesus was here on earth, the night before he died he took BREAD and broke it and said we are to do the same thing to remember him whenever we meet together. As he held up the broken piece of bread he said "This is my body, broken for you, take eat in remembrance of me" And then he took the cup of wine and said it is his blood, shed for you, drink, all of you.

--He knew during that "last supper" that he would die the next day. (Not all Christians believe we eat his literal body or drink his literal blood) But we do believe we are doing what Jesus commanded of us. That we are to do this just as he did it, when we meet together so we will realize that he died for the purpose of paying for our sins. How did he know to do this at the supper before the soldiers even came for him?

If Jesus stood infront of you, and told you to do something out of respect, to honor him...would you?

It is because Jesus said "This is my body" and "Do this in memory of me."

What I find interesting is all those Protestants who say that evolution is wrong -- because they take Genesis literally. However, those same people do not believe in transubstantiation. Why do they take the Old Testament literally -- but believe that God spoke metaphorically in the New Testament?
