Should I go for a full on dye like last time? Or is highlighting a better choice? My hair is sort of darker brown (some might say "mousy brown" *wince*) and i'm a guy lol. It's shorter (dress code) but not incredibly so. Any help/suggestions would be MOST appreciated!!!

In order not to end up with a carrot top color remember to always use a toner. The toner will take care of the orange coloring for you.
Consider highlighting first and then when bored with that go for an all over dye job.
Good news is, you are a guy and your hair is not really long so should things turn out to be a total disaster you may decide to opt for a Yul Brenner look until your hair grows back in and then start all over experimenting. BFN

First, to go from dark brown to blonde, you lighten your hair, not dye it. You can not deposit lighter color on darker hair and expect good results. Second, getting to blonde from brown requires that you go through orange. It's the law of color. Third, for the love of all things holy, do not use "drugstore" hair color on your hair.

Here's what you need to do. If you know a hair stylist ask them to go to the supply house and get a good brand of bleach. (Scruples, Paul Mitchell, Joico). If you can't do that go to Sally Beauty Supply and get some Kalidacolors (sp?). Get the neutral bleach.

If you want to do highlights yourself, go for a tipping cap. You have pretty good contol of how light or heavy the highlights will be. Pull your hair through, and apply the bleach. Go through the orange. If it takes longer than 45-50 min. rinse out the bleach, condition, dry, and start over again.

If you want to do all over do the same thing, but without the cap.

A professional isn't a bad idea either. Condition with a high quality conditioner after. Remember, go through the orange.

It turned orange because you can't dye dark hair blonde, it has to be bleached, and if it was bleached the product wasn't left on long enough.

If you do it yourself a good thing to remember is to stay within two shades of your natural color. If it is still orange I would get something in a medium brown. They also have the Feria brand for men if you want to put lighter streaks or whatever in your hair. What color are you going for?

I used to do highlights all over and then I would dye it a light or extra light ash blonde the next week. My natural hair color is a medium to dark blonde shade and it was always REALLY blonde!!
Hair lightens in stages: red, to orange, to yellow, then blonde. You are almost there. Try a lighter dye next time and it should work.

I am a hairstylist and I can tell you even I have trouble sometimes getting a nice blond. If we wanna try again at home go for highlights they are easier to hide or cover up.If you have a warm natural brown(red in it) Go for a ash blond. If your brown is cooler(flat color) go for a natural blond.Try to stay away from the bleaching kits they are very hard to control color shade at home.Good luck I think you may need it.

since you do have dark hair, you cant just go blonde. you have to slowly change the color so it wont turn out orange lol.
if you cant go to a salon to get it done, get a few box colors that will be steps to getting the desired color. or if you just want highlights, try Sun-in. Or you could do bleach, then the color...that works too.

Don't leave it on as long, the color. Take it off a lil bit than before and see wat happens. i think u shuld just do highlights becuz i see full blonde isnt in right now. brown is more in. highlights are kinda out now but theyll be back in, in the spring.

the worst thing in the WORLD to do, is to re-dye your hair, after dying it the day before. you have to give it a couple days so you can wash your hair really good, & let the color fade a little. Also, hair dyes much easier when it's left dirty, for instance, dye your hair BEFORE you take your shower for the day.

since you have brown hair, you shouldn't die your hair blonde if you don't know what you're doing...

really if your hair is brown, it's not a good idea to die it lighter anyways...(by yourself) ((again if you don't know what you are doing))

my hair is a darker...but not DARK brown...and i got caramel and blonde highlights...it fades it in nicely.

one of my best friends dies his hair himself...i think he's naturally a lightish brown...

i lied. his mom does it.
